It'd probably be interesting to do a historical analysis of this, I think Stacker News probably follows a pretty extreme distribution of (1) lurkers vs. (2) sharers vs. (3) producers and specifically has a lot more of (1) then (2) since people vote with their sats.
Putting my microeconomist hat on, the fact that a post costs 100x more than a reply basically creates the incentive for threads that are more packed than the norm. For example, HN (the place that must not be named) doesn't typically have a lot of discussions - but then upvotes and replies are "free".
I'd be interested to see if people can put numbers to this. There's like $800mn volume a month in NFTs on Ether - I can see something like a $1.5bn market cap total on Runes currently: https://www.okx.com/web3/marketplace/runes though I have no idea if that's a complete figure. My perspective is that this is irrational market behavior, but the market can persist in irrationality for much longer than assumed. Having said that, I'd be surprised if this fee environment persists for much longer than a few months. But it has the numbers to keep on running with a few assumptions - i.e my read on this is that Runes saw 2x the monthly NFT Ether market at launch. If these are seen as semi-equivalent markets, then Runes might be able to persist at an annoying enough volume for quite a while.
Yeah me neither - was curious if someone could let me know the largest group they've encountered lol. For me it's 11 people lol
Yeah, thanks - is it more of a technical group issue or user adoption? If people are part of 200+ member group chats lmk

They did this to Damus for example, when it listed. It's probably one of the easiest ways China can enforce a ringfenced Internet besides adding IP addresses to the Great Firewall. One of the reasons BTC/Nostr can be resilient is plenty of non-app store options to access. Also a good reminder that app store configuration/choice is a vital part of making technologies anti-censorship resilient.
