A common response to this assault has been to “code more” and build more resilient protocols, a necessary but insufficient answer. Bitcoin is more than just a ticker on a stock brokerage. It is a technology and a tool meant to give control back to the people rather than being an array of tools used to enforce control. It requires a holistic effort that considers legislative power, tapping the popular will, and new technologies that can reinforce the critical concepts of digital privacy, control over one’s assets and information, and the censorship-proof and decentralized nature of Bitcoin.
Exactly so. Btc will be fine, in the end, regardless of what happens. But people having their heads up their ass wrt whether or not they need to play the game -- to exert influence through the channels of power where influence is wielded -- will dictate whether btc achieves its destiny in ten years, or fifty. In other words, whether they're in a position to benefit from it while they still have their own teeth.
I've never been able to figure out why people don't care about this, but they will eventually wish they had. Some of these issues are discussed in the podcast linked here, which I recommend highly, even though it's on another topic.

This is all designed to scare normal people away from Bitcoin. Make it seem illegal to use and most people will stay away.
I’m just waiting to see if they try and come after self hosting your own wallet and node next.
They want to either scare everyone away from Bitcoin or to at least drive them into KYC wallets and exchanges where they can be controlled.

The state usually goes after the low hanging fruit first. The easy stuff. I would be surprised if they went after nodes and self hosted wallet any time soon. But, I've been wrong before. I suspect they will see how this goes first. If they win in court then I suspect they will go hard and fast.

I think Forbes deserves some credit here for telling it like it is. This is a mainstream publication calling out the government.

This is a Forbes Contributor piece, which are written and published independently of whatever else Forbes itself publishes. No chance the Forbes editors themselves aren't towing the party line.
For the record, there are a lot of crypto sponsored posts on Forbes published like that.

This is just one more step towards absolute control, if this doesn't wake up many I don't know what will, take all your Bitcoin out of decentralized entities, that can be considered activism, let's battle against these criminals.
