Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.
Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!
We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!
Cruising through some #gray data while researching my next book.
Now I have an interesting fun fact for the next fun fact Friday.

Can't wait to hear what the fun fact is.

This OpenAI drama is so fascinating... 🍿

I know! Either way it’s a big mistake: on the boards part for being deaccelerationists or on Sam for doing something genuinely shady.
reply
I'd be curious to know how people on SN feel about the whole deacceleration position. I suspect we're mostly on team "let it rip, this thing's inevitable".

I will check it out, thanks for the tip was thinking what I can watch next.

If anyone else is a conspiracy theory spectator, check this out from Kim Dotcom:
This is potentially the most significant leak of military technology in history.
There is video evidence from 2014 that the US military is in possession of technology that most would describe as Alien. Objects that fly with some sort of gravity propulsion with unbelievable speed and maneuverability, shielded by a vacuum layer that can potentially penetrate anything.
These advanced objects seem to be able to create portals that can make a Boing 777 airliner disappear in an instant. This evidence has been out there for a decade but it took @JustXAshton and his investigation to attract wider attention.
Many of you have seen the TicTac UFO videos filmed by US Navy jets in 2004. The 2014 evidence seems to suggest that this technology has been in the possession of the US military for a long time. The evidence is compelling because it was filmed from 3 different surveillance platforms simultaneously: 2 US spy satellites and 1 US military drone.
The leaked videos when combined create a problem for debunkers because the physics match up from different angles. It would take a gigantic effort to fake something like this.
This could be the most significant leak of military technology in history. Surely the US Govt will attempt to discredit it. But it’s now in the public domain and a crowd investigation is taking place.
The implications are enormous. If this technology is real it renders the nuclear deterrence of non-US nations meaningless. These objects can travel faster than any missile and create portals that can make any plane, missile, submarine or satellite disappear.
What makes this discovery so controversial is that this technology was allegedly used to make flight MH370 disappear. A tragedy that is surrounded by many conspiracy theories. How does a passenger plane vanish without a trace?
Please watch this video. I’m following developments closely. Several attempts were made to debunk the video evidence but none of them were credible. https://youtube.com/watch?v=AwaC4AXFqRI
I haven't done my spectating yet, but the claim is that MH370 was sent through a portal created by tictac shaped aircrafts.
reply
Been following this since they were posted on Reddit in August, this is why I've been wanting to get a UFO sub going here. The manipulation on reddit is crazy, would be a good stress test for SN hahaha.
But this guy Ashton has put a lot of work into the story, it's wild if you read up on it. I don't agree with all of his claims but he sure deserves some sats I feel.
reply
reply
The biggest question I have is, why now?
Why 2023, when AI is extremely prevalent and capable? When these videos and assets are dated from many years prior? Why now when U.S. would arguably want to demonstrate they have more powerful technology than perhaps they do (as a deterrent)? Why only this leak, and not other military operations/technology/showcases/atrocities? Why have they not already discredited or removed these videos? Why would they not want this to remain secret?
reply
the answer is simple: to make noise with this so people will be busy and DO NOT LOOK where is suppose to look (usually something is happening and they like to be ignored).
Masters of puppets show...

Solid argument.
Perhaps this week we're about to see more internet outages, the demise of financial markets and massive movements in the Middle East. Read that Iran's main hosting/CDN provider ArvanCloud had been affected yesterday.

my argument is solid because your question was solid too πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ few people today are asking the right questions...

So.. who has an account but still uses @anon sometimes?
I'm happy but still surprised how much @anon is used.
reply
Accounts are lame. Every account I create adds to my mental overhead, "I know I have some data over there somewhere, so I need to make sure I remember it in case it's relevant in the future." Accounts presume some level of future maintenance for privacy reasons or in our case financial reasons or for archival/self-snapshot reasons.
This is one reason to be bullish on DIDs and actually self-hosting your data. While self-hosting anything isn't free, it doesn't give me the same type of data anxiety because I'm more in control of it all.

waiting for fees to reduce so I can open lightning channels without paying an arm and a leg.
reply
Feels like we’ll be waiting some time. Been 80-180k sats per byte for 3 weeks now. Paying close attention also though.
Just make sure the channel size is chunky to justify any inflated fees.

Is the channel size the reason channels force close in a high fee environment?

I think sn could pop off if we had a podcast sub. The equivalent on Reddit has over 2 million members. This could also generate a ton of sats for sn community.
Also the fact that no one on Nostr has figured this out yet is kinda weird. Either something is coming or no one is paying attention.
Also saw children of men last night and yes it’s still near a perfect film. πŸ‘Œ
reply
I'd love to support podcasters more, but do people want to discuss podcasts in this particular text format? I'm not sure.
Other than discussions, what value would we bring podcasts? Ranking? I could see that a little more clearly.
On discussions ...
Good discussions require a coincidence knowledgeable people wanting to discuss something at roughly the same time - which is already rare even for 5 minute long article reads. In the case of podcasts, it's a 1-3hr time commitment in audio and/or video format and then switching to text to discuss it. Meaning, I think the coincidence rate is even lower for podcast discussions.
reply
SN already popping off without a podcast sub. What we really need is a frozen yoghurt section.

Morning stackers. If you're interested in the Broken Money book club, I just wrote a post soliciting your thoughts on the upcoming part 5. It started as a msg here in the saloon but got too long, so I made it its own thing.
(Now that I'm writing this, and reflecting on the other 'advertising' that I've done in here, I'm worried that it's annoying to spam the saloon with notifications of this kind. I guess I do it because it seems sort of like a "public service announcement" that you would make in real life; but if this is annoying, please let me know, and I'll knock it off.)

Don't!
I think the saloon is ideal for stuff like this. It's an unintended consequence, but a good one.
I think you're like I used to be a lot more in the past: You care too much :)
Not a bad thing, but it shouldn't make you feel bad about certain things you do.
reply
I can say, even as someone yet to engage with book club, I appreciate the tag and mention. More so than the spam ads of late, that’s for sure πŸ˜„ Perhaps there could be a small cost to tag someone, to prevent misuse.
It’s high signal and reinforcement for me to receive a notification and reminder to grab the book. To join the discussion. I may otherwise miss the post and discussions. Feel free to keep tagging us/me. If you’ve had complaints from others, remove them.
(To be honest as a SN feature I would also love a way to be notified when certain users create any new post at all. You would be one of those users.)
reply
Perhaps there could be a small cost to tag someone
I think everyone should have a setting that allow or disallow tagging them. If allow is selected then a fee should be payed of which a portion should go to the user.
reply
you can disable notifications for mentions, no need for fees imo
reply
Go to their profile, next to the cowboy hat, "subscribe to posts"
If you do it anywhere else, you'll just be subscribing to that particular post or comment.
reply
Thanks for the thoughts and the nice words.
Fwiw, you can follow stackers when they make a new post, a comment, or both. Go to their profile and click the three dots, and you can select from a dropdown.

Morning Stackers,
Its wild to think that veterans are primed for bitcoin adoption and are a global decentralized community which can provide security and logistics support.
It seems like merchant adoption is going well (CoinOs/Oshi/Nostr Markets/Meetups and Conferences/Distributors/Initiatives).
Striving towards living on a bitcoin standard is a spiritual journey, which has the potential to focus your thoughts, uplift your spirit, and heal your soul.
Thanks, Hustle

Howdy gang, the weekend has officially started time to rest and relax and ponder about our week and see if we managed to get to our weekly goals, if our approach this week was optimal if all turned out the way we wanted then time to just enjoy the day, if not then we try a different way or think of we can improve, always forward, never backwards not even to gain a push. I wish you all a phenomenal weekend, may it be fruitful, successful and filled with love because you, my friend, deserve it. You're worthy, you matter, you're important and you're loved my good friend. Be well and stay frosty!!

I don't buy it. Silver and gold are such common symbols. To lay so much meaning on them in the Wizard of Oz context without much other evidence seems like a stretch. On the other hand, the mocking of the ruling class, politicians makes sense. I enjoy the "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" thing.
