Howdy partners, just holding onto my hat on a windy day!

Is it me or has the signal to noise ratio decreased on SN in the last week? I have used the flag feature for the first time. Maybe this is a sign of the return of the bull market. Do we need to brace ourselves for the hordes of shitcoiners?

reply

Yeah, I’ve also flagged a few posts that seemed to be poor attempts at making something clickbaity but just didn’t really fit here

reply

Need to brush off my writing again this week. We can all be the change we want to see.

Think we were blessed with some great content in October. November might just be a slow month so far. Has been for my brain.

reply

There's talk of increasing the cost of posting. Hopefully, that will address it.

I think part of the issue is that we've been zapping content at much larger magnitudes (which I whole-heartedly endorse) and that might be drawing new people to the site. With any luck, they'll assimilate and start adding value once they realize that's how to get the biggest rewards.

360 sats \ 1 reply \ @k00b 6 Nov 2023

Yes, peak pricing to be specific, aka global fee escalation.

@Undisciplined had a really simple version where base cost = num posts in last hour

We could also just raise the base fee. There's also someone zapping nearly every post 10 sats which makes practically every post profitable.

reply

Oh cool yes now that you describe this I think I read the original discussion on this. Sounds good!

reply

I think down zapping is also good.

reply

and the sats goes to SN pool too.

reply

Exactly!

reply

I really feel good when I flag with some sats a shity post, because I know that those sats are going back to the posts/users that deserve them. SN is fucking awesome!

reply
down zapping

I never knew this is possible. How?

reply

Click on the three dots above the comment or post and click flag. Then you can downzap

reply

Ok. Thank you for letting me know.

reply

I never think to do that. It is a public service, though, and I applaud you for doing it.

Exactly my question. I don't know. We could test it lol. Flag this post

reply

Yeah, same here.

reply

I had to flag this one, because I had already zapped the other post.

reply

I don't see anything on this post. I have no feedback

reply

Interesting. I see a little flag icon on the post.

reply

Yeah there is a visual indication when you flag something but apparently the user being flagged doesn't know what is happening.

This reminds me of the good ole bozo filter on blogs. If you have a spammer in your comments you don't block them from posting you just make it so only they see their comments :).

As long as honesty is a choice, trust is a vulnerability.

reply

This is so true, but sometimes if you take that leap of faith and trust, it could lead to something great.

reply

Can also say trust is a strength when honesty is a choice

reply

Maybe reputation.

But what do you mean?

reply

Bitcoin doesent become worth more It just becomes harder to obtain Discuss

reply

Bitcoin is deflationary by nature. It will become one of the most sought after asset classes. Its already prevalent in the way countries, corporations, and high net induvial are buying up Bitcoin during these discount prices.

Another important factor to remember is the fact that the supply is constantly shrinking as more people lose access to their wallets.

reply

@k00b @Murch Can we have a SN bot for Bitcoin Stack Exchange posts, or some kind of integration / SN sub ?

Will be nice to reward the gigantic work that all those contributors are doing on Bitcoin stackExchange and I think the nice and easy way will be on SN. https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/users

reply

That would be pretty cool.

An RSS feed with the newest questions can be found here: https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/feeds

Unfortunately, we get a lot of spam and low-quality questions, so I wouldn’t recommend cross-posting every new question post. I was trying to figure out whether there is a way to get an rss feed of only questions with at least three upvotes, but while I can produce a search to that end, I haven’t found a way to turn that into a feed, yet.

Perhaps if you’d run this search repeatedly and then post items once they make these search result, you’d be able to achieve such an effect.

Edit: Just found What other hidden or inobvious RSS feeds are available on Stack Exchange and its sites?. Perhaps https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/feeds/hot would be useful in this endeavor.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

Or did you mean a feed of the posts that specific users are making? That would be easy, mine is for example: https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/feeds/user/5406/recent

reply

@k00b: I have bug report, I posted below line in a URL, but after submitting my text field input the URL was modified.

Original: https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/search?tab=newest&q=is%3aq%20score%3a3&searchOn=3

(Edit:) After posting the URL is modified to: https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/search?tab=newest&q=is%3aq%20score%3a3&searchOn=3

reply

Weird. Looks like it's getting escaped. I made a GH issue for it.

reply

Mh, just realized that the RSS feed for my account also includes comments, it’s not just questions and answers.

reply

This is a great idea!

Tbh, I don't get what this bot should do. Cross-post questions and answers to SN? But then the zaps would go to the bot.

Or do you mean something similar like the original idea of @hn with an option to pay out the sats to the corresponding users on StackExchange after some proof?

reply

yes, sats should go to the contributors. I don't know exactly how this could be done, but I would love to see a btc stack Q&A on SN, with all those good experienced people answering.

reply

yes, but is nice to follow the chain of command...

We just try and encourage the snail on its way!

I say if you can take a nap during the day then take one, there are people that don't get the opportunity, so take a nap on there behalf as well.

reply

Well, I never plan to. My head hits the desk, and there is no one there to say "keep working".

reply

I find myself taking a nap during the day on Sundays whether I want to or not lol.

Since I don't have normal work hours, I usually fall asleep in the afternoon for a half hour. I normally have trouble sleeping more than five hours a night, but lately it's been more like six

I honestly think, El Salvador adopting Bitcoin is a publicity stunt which has worked great for the country. Didn't the president say they will buy some Bitcoin everyday. There's absolutely no proof he went through with this promise. And now the selling Volcano Bonds. I'm curious what's everyone stance on Bitcoin adoption in El Salvador.

reply

I don't really care how much BTC the ES gov is buying. That is meaningless. I care much to see people using it.

reply

The no coiners wake up during bull markets. It's a fact, whether we like it or not. ES began adoption at the beginning of a bear. Usage may kick up in ES as the number goes up. We can't underestimate greed and jealousy. The average person will want his or her piece.

reply

This is a valid point. We have to give the country credit for adopting Bitcoin during a time when sentiment wasn't high.

reply

That's true. But are regular citizens using Bitcoin to buy good and service? I would love to get my hands on some stats to be honest. At least El Salvador is a case study for the rest of the world. Bitcoin adoption does bring some success to any economy and that's a fact. Hopefully Argentina is next.

reply

"What is Money?" in Argentina with Ariel Aguilar - La bitcoineta (WiM387) https://fountain.fm/episode/fad3NxcxvwYVgqHCDFuc

reply

Nope, Argentina will be not be next. Argentina will be just another dollar slave, using tethers and stableshitcoins. Nigeria, instead have more potential.

reply

But what about this pro Bitcoin presidential candidate in Argentina. He's promising to adopt a Bitcoin standard once elected. Maybe he's just using Bitcoins popularity to get the Bitcoin vote but who knows, he might just follow through just like El Salvador.

2024 will be a big year and countries will jump on the bandwagon for the sake of not missing out. Or maybe I'm completely wrong and 2024 turns into a shit show.

reply

Please stop repeating what internet propaganda says about Milei. He is NOT a pro Bitcoin, he literally says that want to dollarize Argentina. He's a puppet anyways.

2024 turns into a shit show.
