Definitely.
I feel that the REAL alternative to google apps for android is Nextcloud. Anything else is from slightly worse to considerably worse. If you've the opportunity, run Nextcloud.
Glad to hear that you liked the answer!!
I tend to have periods in which I do journal-only writings and some others during which I tend to write more abstact stuff. Overall, that's not more than 15/20 minutes of writing session. I don't considef it too much, although sometimes I stop way before the 15 minutes (particularly if the day was a boring day). Unfortunately I understood too late the importance of writing routines, thus I now simply try to keep up with the "action" of writing, the content often flows as a consequence. I'm now going through a particularly dense period with regards to feelings, emotions and understanding of myself: that habit helps me writing down what otherwise would be simply random noise in my brain. That's terapeutic more than anything else.
The balance journaling-thoughts is often associated with the kind of books I'm reading during that specific period. Novels trigger my journaling tendency more than essays, whereas essays tend to trigger some reasonings related to the essay topic. Overall I always try to put in some journaling words anyways...I like the idea of being able to retrieve feelings that I had in the past. To me it's like having a shelf full of freezed timestamps, like insects in amber.
I don't have a standardized way in which I organize my writings...they're sort of "lines lakes" where I throw stuff. When I feel that a specific topic is taking too much room in my journaling notebook, I move to markdown files and I try to form an organic and more organized short article about that topic.
As of now I don't publish stuff I wrote because I see that as too personal, I may change idea in the future. Writing only for myself makes writing a rest activity, If I where to publish stuff I would have to edit and rewrite most of the things I wrote.
Reading is painting in your own imagery the characters, the views, the feelings and sounds and fragrances.
You're 100% on it, you can't be anywhere else
You listen to audiobooks when doing something else (most likely) as driving, training or whatever. That is consumption...may be consumption of a good old story, but still consumption.
Isn't an entire planet out there? Clubs are mostly slimy places, I don't like those either.
Being in public places doesn't force you to increase your openness, it simply puts you in potential contact with more people. Statistically, that's how we find people we like, being that leading to a love affair or friendship.
Language courses? Reading clubs? Social gatherings? There's a crowd of possible environments you can expose yourself to, ranging from very intellectual to slimy. Analyse the range and understand what's your limit.
it's many things I don't enjoy at once
I can understand that, Rome wasn't build in a day as they say. give yourself time and compare your results with your past results.
Hm, I'm partly with you, but as we know, I'm still a bloody beginner and thus, mistakes have to be made- and felt!
There's no teaching willingness in my comment, I'm just walking by on the same path IRL, thus I can understand you.
Attention? Girls are absolutely flooded with - male - attention 24/7, the only way I see to actually make a dent, is to take things into the real world... 😅 Also "warming" up is quite a feat when trying to work out...
You're right, that's why I think gym is not the best spot to get those hunting session going...
I didn't mean to call you a gym bro, i can understand you're not. Still, gyms are full of those thus the heuristics of a girl are tuned on that assumption.
Keep it up man.
With regards to the approach and asking out girls in general, my point of view is that you've to leave her time to understand you've something to offer.
Something to offer could mean several things, that's up to you...usually that's status, cleverness, humour, physical appearance.
Generally if you close a girl in an angle (in a psychological way) and ask her out like that, with a cold move, you're likely to be rejected. There's no warming up, she's approached by a stranger she doesn't know and have nothing to do with, who's likely to be interested in her only sexually (generally). The defensive mechanism in female individuals of mammals like naked apes (aka humans) is to reject that cold approach.
I'm no PUA or any of that, but I think that girls' attention has to be triggered in order to make them interested and prone to accept your invitation. Girls are not all the same nail whereby you've simply to hammer the same way every one. Statistically that will work, but it's not efficient.
You learned that being rejected is not the end of the world (in fact, sometimes that creates an adrenaline rush XD) and that the distance between achieving something and not achieving it is narrow, it's the step you do in the correct direction (in this case, the girl).
Generally, an understanding of the context is needed...if you approach in gyms, you have to assume that the girl sees any gym bro approaching her straightforwardly as a shark trying to get in her slips.
That's something you want to avoid. But that's my two sats, no expert here.
I sometimes feel that I've been waterboarded by information, dopamine peaks and overflow of news. Even if I don't seek them.
There's little room for slowness in our lives, that's why printed books are losing traction. I'm trying to overcome this by carrying around pocket-sized books and reading them in the bus, in the queue...whenever I would take out my smartphone, for instance. Clearly, not being already social-media-brainwashed helps a lot...I cannot imagine an Instagram addicted to swap his/her attention easily from the flashy IG thread to a Schopenhauer essay.
But I trust people and I think that things will eventually turn again in favour of stories, slowness and immersion. Eventually I only care about the people around me...I need them to value this approach, not the whole mankind. I'm ok with the relatives, girlfriend, friends seeing the value in these...and that's where my attention is ultimately.
I always felt that a bit odd since my mother tongue is not english nor any other widely spoken language. I usually tend to read poetry in italian because it's what turns me on with regards to emotions and feelings. English always felt a bit of a technical-only language for me, at least until few months ago.
I'm trying to deal with this at the moment, that's why I asked this here.
Love it. Being lost in an unknown section of a public library is why I still keep buying and reading paper books and I didn't completely surrender to ebooks and pdfs
Being lost in poetry is going to be hell of a ride, I'm looking forward to it. Thanks.
P2p is gold but if we're talking about socialmedia-like protocols, I don't think that it would work as espected.
A social platform, being it a protocol or a closed garden, has the goal to solve the issue of content discovery and user discovery. In Nostr, that is somehow solved by the fact that users push content to relays, thus relays can provide content discovery even for users out of each other network of connections.
In P2p you cannot achieve it in any meaningful way, because content is simply pushed to clients directly from other clients. That's a good feature for messaging platforms, not social media.
Thanks for the advice, that's a good one. So the key is probably to jump on any bandwagon and see if that fits my taste or not.
EU is losing its mind around these topics. Europe used to be the continent of ideas, liberalism and openness. Hundred years ago brilliant poets, writers, artists, journalists and scientists were freely sharing ideas and art with each other. Even if belonging to hostile countries. Even during WW1 and WW2.
And people used to have more privacy, citizens used to seek privacy. Now it seems people are only happy to be able to share their nudes freely with the world as if it was the sublime manifestation of freedom.
Ayr Rand wrote in For The New Intellectual that
civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage’s whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men.
We're headed to the reinvention of Tribes
Thanks! I hope PlebPoet will take few mins and drop a comment here to give some suggestions, thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion, in fact I looked extensively at his items and profile and he seems very grounded on that. I hope he'll take time to drop a comment here! Thanks
