When I see the posts from a year ago, I see a lot of names that are no longer posting and it made me wonder, what is the average lifespan of a stacker? does @k00b have info on it?

Do we know the ratio of new stackers coming in Vs old ones departing?

One thing I like about SN, is it reminds me of the 2000s and the forum days, you log on, check the threads you like, and see the usual posters (proto assmilkers, if you will ).

Sure, maybe there was an outflow with the introduction of CC, but what about before when it was straight sats?

It's a good question.

For me, what's different from the old days is that being on social media is like dipping your brain in bleach, with cayenne pepper mixed in. You take damage from it, at least I do, and eventually you just have to ghost for a while.

Still trying to figure out how to inhabit the scene the right way, where it's accretive to my life, and to build relationships that feel real and honest. I think this is a civilization-level problem.

i stay off most social media, have a look at nostr every now and then, and facebook i keep around as there are some useful expat groups for me, but i also see plenty of triggering stuff so i limit my time. SN has its own vibe and i don't find it has the same drain as other platforms

When I first joined ~ a year ago the crowd was different but also much smaller as it seemed that it would be roughly the same people that would comment on my posts and whose posts I would comment on. To me it has dramatically expanded and in particular there are people I know will for the most part be in certain areas.

Like Stacker Sports really has its own subset of people who I tend to see there for the most part.

SN has undergone amazing development over the last year but I do think some people, those that say they are true Bitcoiners, pulled back with the introduction of CC. They seem to think that Sats are out even though I am getting less and less CC as more and more people are attaching their wallets.

I haven't looked at these stats in a long time (kr took lead on this), but we did a serious review them after SN was around a year old. One of the crazy things was that we retained ~80% (IIRC) of people for at least a month, after they received a comment or zap on something.

Anyway, you made me curious so I looked. Here's the result of a quick query. This would be cool to add to the analytics dashboard.

I'm thinking of something similar to a static site generator. You define s set of queries towards Postgres and visuals with code, check it into git, build it periodically. You can serve the pages publicly or keep them internal. All based on FOSS.

horse/gun is an easter egg type thing like the hat, but related to use of external wallets - some stackers have figured it out.

Assmilking, to me, is an attempt to extract more sats from SN than one provides in value. Scoresby googled it so you don't have to.

Did you know that were/are at least 2 impersonators of Darthcoin? Guess who are behind those accounts...

During all these almost 4 years in SN I observed a lot how:

users are losing their login details (dumb, I have no respect for careless people)
users are changing alias, just for fun
users are changing their alias to fuck around and mislead others
users are changing alias because they think can escape from Darth watching (they're wrong)
users are creating sockpuppets accounts and even impersonators

I know most of those that really need a separate SN account, for managing territories, or selling products privately, posting jobs etc. That is 100% understandable and we will not judge it.

I think it takes a certain profile to wanna hang around on SN. Your tendency to type long replies makes you a natural fit here, because that stimulates conversation, and Stackers generally want to learn and exchange ideas from each other.

One must generally like to converse with others. Because typing essays takes effort lol.

I invited my ex-shitposting mate from r/cc to assmilk here before. He lasted barely a week. He stuck to the same MO that brought him success on r/cc - sharing of links, making funny remarks. But it’s a posting mentality that is erhm rather forgettable to the regulars here

i think perhaps a shitposting / reddit style could work if there were more active numbers. reddit is so big that the options and subs are endless. whereas on SN, we have a smaller number of territories and 90% of are so dead, that posting there is almost pointless

k00b likes to tell us that SN is still in beta, as a reminder that changes are coming. I think attrition tends to cluster around the big changes: two years ago that was territories, last year it was MSM, this year it'll be Cowboy Credits.

SN is basically just the 3 dozen usual names for the last 3 years posting the majority of stuff. With a vast and growig majority of people that post very little.

At this trajectory SN will not become"Hacker News but with sats" or even "Reddit but with sats".
