pull down to refresh

I am big dreamer. I absolutely love sleeping. I have intense vivid dreams. Even the darker ones are exciting to me. Sometimes I am in control, while knowing I am dreaming. It's like a magical limitless playground. I really enjoy this. So waking up sometimes feels challenging even though my life is beautiful. Sometimes I want to sleep forever.
It used to be my job or school that got me out of bed, with an alarm of course. Other times, it was about my kids. Even drinking morning coffee has been a reason to get up. Now non of these apply, it's hard to get motivated to get moving. There is nothing outside of my own will to move me. Once I am up and moving, I can really enjoy my day. It seems obvious to say "just do it", and move but I struggle with that.
So, I ask, what gets you up in the morning? Does anyone else have lucid dreams? Is sleeping exciting for you? Do you wake up excited to get moving or is there some outside force that pulls you? I love to hear from you all.
Alright. I'm going to drink some green tea, with oatmilk, no sugar and I am going to get to work, now!!! I will not refresh every 30 seconds all day. I won't do it!!! God help me

What’s on your to-do list today?
reply
Relax mostly. My wife it gone so I am taking time for me. Mostly I have been on here to be honest. About to ride my dirt bike to the neighbors and hang out. Lazy day.
reply
I love how you put relaxation as the agenda!
reply
It's a must

Too true😅
reply
There is literally an outside force that pushes me out of bed. It's an impatient four-year-old girl who want to watch cartoons.
reply
I miss those days. Kids are so awesome. Exploding with energy and excitement always.

My wife wakes up early every morning. So usually I hear her rustling around. If not then I usually wake up when I hear her taking the dog out. I will go back to sleep but then usually wake up again shortly after. If it were solely up to me I would happily stay up until 3am and get up at 10am every day but usually I go to sleep around 2am and wake up sometime between 8 and 9am.
reply
My wife helps me so much. She has been gone for a few days and I have noticed a big difference. Thats why I am posting this now. She keeps me grounded. I struggle to find stricture without here. Thank God for my wife. She will be back soon. I suppose she gets me up out of bed now in general.
reply
It's me who gets up myself. There's noone and nothing can get me up. I'm not tied to anything for getting up. I'm a rigid sleeper. I love sleeping, though I only sleeps 4 to 5 hours daily.
reply
So you are just automatically excited for the day then? I have a hard time with the transition. I don't know why?
reply
Sleeping is like a habit. You can change it if you practice. I've seen both people sleeping 9 and 10 hours still feeling lazy and some have hardly slept 5 hours and look as energetic as ever.
So, I'd suggest you practicing yoga before and after sleep.
reply
My wife would suggest the same thing. She is a yoga teacher. Been practicing her whole life. Maybe I should listen.
reply
You should otherwise one day you'll be old and your wife will still be fitter and younger.
reply
I know. And she is 10 years younger already.
reply
Damn! 🙄 Mine is 12.
reply
Way to go. I think this is natural. Woman mature faster right?
I don’t dream or at least I never remember them. When I go to sleep I experience nothing and then it’s time to get up and repeat the drudgery of the day all over again. If I didn’t have to go to work or get my kids off to school, I’d probably just stay in bed all day since most days I wake up with stress headaches.
reply
Interesting. I wonder if that means you don't dream or just don't remember your dreams. When I smoked pot daily in the past, I never remember dreams. You said your days are drudgery. So it is only outside forces that move you out of bed. Is your life not what you want it to be?
reply
Yeah, life has been rough the last few years. It has pretty much just been work and struggling to take care of my family and household chores on far too little sleep everyday.
reply
I feel you. That sounds rough. Keep it up. Trust it will get better. And it will. Life comes in waves. Sometimes it is hard. Keep the faith.
reply
That’s what I keep telling myself though it is getting harder to believe.
reply
Why the name deadbeef?
reply
Though I guess it kind of reflects how I’ve felt lately.
reply
Well I look forward to you feeling alive. Tides will turn.
reply
Wow, I never could have guessed that. I was thinking it was because you were a fan of the carnivore diet or something. I am a big fan of magic numbers.
reply
The Sun It straight away falls on my bed through the window.
reply
That's a beautiful answer. We should all be so grateful for the sun. Generally we take it for granted.
reply
My father wakes me up in the morning generally. But sometimes I get up own my own if I sleep early. I've no hard and fast rules about when to sleep and when to wake. I take it more naturally. If I sleep more, I think it was required. If less, it was not required. Yes, after waking up, I drink 1 glass of lukewarm water.
reply
I like that approach. I think too many people force themselves into a rigid sleep schedule. Sometimes I need more rest. Sometimes less. Good idea on the water. I have heard cold water is hard on the system first thing. And most people go straight to a stimulating drink. Sound like you have a solid non-ritual ritual.

My cup of tea
reply
I am switching from coffee to tea. So much more mellow. I think I can learn to love this.
reply
You should try. There are many varieties available in tea.
reply
That's true. Lots of options. Mix it up versus just having the same coffee everyday. 🙏

Ginger tea with Tulsi is my favourite tea. You should try it. Very good for health as well
reply
Sounds good. Probably would help my guy feel better in the morning. I often feel acidic or something first thing.
reply
...gotta take a piss... lol
reply
Wow. So simple. I usually do to.. and often I go back to bed though. Maybe I just make a rule, once I'm up, stay up?
reply
That's pretty neat that you have intense, vivid dreams that excites you and is almost like a portal to the playground that you described. I could see how makes it hard to want to get up when you're playing in a playground!
I don't have lucid dreams, and sleeping to me is more for rest and recovery so my body can heal and restore itself so I have the energy to get up and live my life. Generally, I wake up excited to get moving! I wake up excited to start my morning routine and get my day started. Mornings are my favorite because there is so much possibility for the rest of the day - you never know what can unfold. It's like a mini reset every single day which is super exciting to me.
reply
I will get back there. I have been going through a lot of inner work and expansion. It's beautiful but challenging at times. Life is such a trip..
reply
That makes sense, and it sounds like you've found a sense of safety in the dreams. Agreed with life being both beautiful and challenging at times! Good for you for undergoing this personal development work 👏

Broadly speaking, I’m on a mission to declutter my life this year. Recycle books, organise and then delete photos on my phone, input my feelings about them on my blog
Some time in the future, my life will have lots of white space that is brimming with possibilities. My blog will make it big, with people clamouring to read what Sensei has to say haha.
I’m not the sort who remembers my dreams when I wake up. I’m envious of those who can engage in dream analysis and whatnot. But it is what it is
reply
Do you or will you post links to your blogs here?
reply
That is a great mission. I agree that we must make space if we wish to have new great things in our lives. I have been decluttering for years now. I want to make my life as simple as possible. Keep it up.

Today I dreamed that I was traveling to Argentina and that I was 20 minutes away from where I currently live, it was funny. It also happens to me that I want to stay in my dreams, especially when I am doing something I like or I am in a place I want to be and when that happens I feel upset for waking up, which is horrible because we are supposed to be thankful for each day, for each sunrise, but sometimes I just don't feel that way and I want to stay in bed. What motivates me to wake up? I have to make my daughter breakfast and take her to school; I don't feel motivated for the rest.
reply
I feel you. I have waken to make my kids breakfast many of my days.

"What gets you up?"
The hope that when I check the price of bitcoin, China will have bought a trillion dollars of it in my sleep, during their wake hours. 😂
On a more serious note, I have a family to wake up to. I used to have this same question you're asking, and it was a tough time for me. But now I don't have that question, because other people are up, or will be, when I get up. The emotionally draining thought of "what is the purpose of getting out of bed today" doesn't cross my mind anymore, and with patience and a commitment to will and purpose (and change), the neuroplasticity of the brain, and time, can heal all.
reply
I remember feeling this way when I had young kids. It was a good felling. I drove to work, feeling fulfilled, regardless of the job. I like taking care of people. My new wife and I are planning on having kids. I am looking forward to living selflessly again.

is this something you practiced (lucid dreaming) to do intentionally?
reply
No. It just happens for me. Since I was a kid, I could fly around in my dreams. It comes and goes. For years I smoked a lot of weed and it went away completely. I quite recently so its been coming back and it's been a big adjustment.
reply

Ahh yup. Very common for weed to supress dreams. I don't toke/drink THC all that often anymore, but it still happens. Soon as I stop after a short stint, the dreams come back vivid af, then settle down to my normal.
reply
Yeah. They are settling for me now and I am grateful. Still a cool experience but it was a bit much for a while.

Love for life. In my mind, I perceive a connection between sleeping and death. So, the love of living motivates me to get up every morning. I want to enjoy life until I can. Sleeping more than needed, I consider it wasting my life.
reply
I see a connection as well. Like when we awake, we are reborn every day. To me sleeping is going home to our souls journey.

since i moved myself into an outdoor tent by the pond for night-time, i wake up to the birds chirping. sometimes the chirping is beautiful and sometimes it's annoying.
reply
That sounds beautiful. How did that sleeping arrangement come to be. When we first went off-grid we stayed in tents. No pond though.
reply
i used to have a private written rental contract at my current place, then moved, and later came back. because i was a very good tenant the first time around, i got much cheaper rent, and no written contract.
the inside space is tiny, but the backyard is spacious with a pond, a couple fruit trees, and a dog. i set up an enclosed gazebo-tent so i can have more space, and just sleep in there. the place has very good vibes, art, music, birds.
the other rental place was pretty bland, purely a fiat income-generating property, and one night my gf even sensed a dark amorphous blob in the bedroom.
i have a very robust tent as well, big enough for two queen beds and a small table. i got it with the idea of having a semi-permanent camp if necessary. my vision is to be in a place with mountains, forest, and a coastline. slowly but surely...
this was a test to see how far i can push it without a fiat job, and i did manage to get paid here and there in bitcoin, but it's not steady enough. however, i do not feel pressure, life is still quite comfortable, just need to use the brain more.
reply
Keep it up. You will get there.

I wake up early to enjoy the solitude, while the rest of the family is still asleep.
reply
I have managed to get used to wake up around the same hour everyday. I don't even need an alarm clock most of the days. Then, I go out for some exercise (walk/running), breakfast and full of energy to commence my day. Regarding dreams, I don't remember any to them. It seems I am rating through the night.
reply
I think this is a key. Wake up and do some kind of movement like walking. Once I get moving, I feel much better. Someone else suggested yoga. I like a nice walk though. The dogs would appreciate it. Even though we live in the middle of nowhere and the dogs are not fenced in, they like to take walks together.

reply
That was me most of my life. Now I am only responsible for me. What to do.... Well I do have to feed the dogs at some point. But then I can just go back to bed and stacker all day if I want.

would say will, but reality is the thirst for coffee lol
reply
Coffee is so tasty.
reply
I'm a very early riser. Between 4 and 5 am. It just comes naturally. I enjoy my sleep but snap awake after 5 hours or so. I enjoy coffee with my cat while the rest of the family sleeps. I treasure the solitude. I take each dog on a morning walk, check out SN, watch a podcast or two, and the rest of my family is still asleep. With a more relaxed work schedule I usually take a half hour afternoon nap.

I can feel this for sure. That quiet solitude in the early hours is a huge reason to move. I have that all the time now, pretty much, so it isn't an incentive.
