I have noticed lately that it seems stackers are not donating to the rewards pool.
I know we get a big donation each day (from SN or some other mysterious benefactor) that helps fund the daily reward issuance but why aren't stackers paying it forward?
Rewards only showing 208 sats right now. I am pretty sure 200 of those are from me.
Is the data wrong or is no one donating to rewards?
I definitely guilted some folks into donating with this post. That wasn't the intent.
reply
I know that's how I phrased it, but really you sparked some introspection.
If the rewards are how we hope to hook new people (in part), then it makes sense to contribute to the rewards pool. It wouldn't take much from the regular users to significantly enhance the daily payouts.
reply
There should be a donation hall of fame. I know the current leaderboard shows the top rewards for the day, but having an all-time view would be pretty cool!
I'm sure we would see some at .05 BTC donated and above.
reply
That's a great idea!
reply
I just donate 111. It will update ASAP. From today I will do it on daily basis.
reply
Nice job. I was more curious why people weren't doing it rather than trying to convince people to do it.
reply
Most of the people zap on their favourite. The content they like. or whom he follow. No one think about donation. But I feel that donation should also be given.
reply
I donate 100 daily 🤷‍♂️
reply
Actually, looks like my code is broken as of today. Something must have changed in the API with yesterday’s release
reply
Mhh, what error do you get?
reply
Seems like my upsertComment mutation is not successful. I am not logging the error response, but my code is failing to parse the response data, looking for data.upsertComment. Any new params or signature changes to that mutation? I can look myself too, don't stop anything important
reply
Ohh, we did indeed change the response for every mutation. The previous response is now nested inside a response property. We did that because a mutation might also return an invoice now next to response in invoice.
But I think the arguments haven't changed.
Seems like I also need to fix @hn but that would mean something about the arguments did change 🤔
Haven’t checked the logs yet but will report back when I do
reply
Nice. More of an observation and question of trend change rather than trying to get people to donate but good to know I am not the only one.
reply
Just asking brought my attention to it, so thank you!
reply
I see what you're doing 👀
Perhaps for the same reasons that we discussed at @siggy47's post yesterday.
reply
Maybe. I think it's also possible that some of the stackers who regularly contributed are no longer active on the site.
reply
I had a feeling it was like this too. I feel SN always donates 100k, but its interesting to see when they dont donate for a peeiodnof time, there isnt much action and l can be number 1 lol
reply
I think if they get boosts they don’t donate. Otherwise they donate 100k a day.
reply
reply
Haha this is great.
reply
Here's one for you and for everyone else.
reply
In keeping with You are a SN Reward System, I prefer zapping out to the specific stuff I want to reward.
reply
I get that. I am just surprised with the trend change. Rewards used to get a lot of donations but lately I have been noticing very little because I donate daily.
reply
Personally I loved checking in every day and getting a daily reward, then I felt the need to donate. When the rewards went monthly I wandered away and I have no idea what is what.
Good question.
Just remember that the system of Stacker did change and that when things change people like me also change. Just my two sats.
reply
When the rewards went monthly I wandered away and I have no idea what is what.
Me too. I'm not convinced that experiment was a nett positive for SN.
reply
As a wise man has said, "If you are not breaking anything you are not doing anything, also."
The Stacker process is all about movement. It mirrors the world we live in. Hopefully we can stack good proof of work in the process.
Even when I gently or vehemently disagree with a Stacker I'm still reminding myself that that Stacker is a mirror of me. I'm thinking, "Why is my mirror so dirty, corrupt or rotten? Then the mirror says, "exactly, Grasshopper!"
reply
Many of us had criticized the monthly. Especially when it went a second month. The first month was kind of a fun idea and I wouldn’t mind if they brought it back once a year for March. But we are back to daily rewards now so hopefully all the stackers that were turned off by the monthly come back.
reply
Hopefully indeed. I do feel like we’re seeing more of the OGs around lately.
reply
Must be because they want to see their names in lights in your “this day in SN” posts.
reply
Which ogs?
reply
I think this is a good point. How do you feel now that it has gone back to daily rewards.
reply
I was kind of aware but not really. I think the daily rewards is a great thing. Yes, we should train ourselves to be patient but I think also amassing sums of sats is not a good thing. It's better to have a daily pile because that is better feedback on the work that each person does.
Personally I ran google ads for 15 years at a domain and once I actually wrote something that made $5 which was thousands of hits.... but I never ever got that $5 because I never earned much more. (So my writing sucks but also the ads sucked and eventually I disconnected.) In one week of stacker I was hooked by earning sats that in one week was more valuable than 15 years of web work.
Daily rewards are a great boon. If the backend is a painful experience then I understand why there would be a change. But also some days I donated 10,000 sats just because I was grateful for the work the Stacker team and plebs do.
reply
I think a lot of stackers do have appreciation for having a place like SN where they can both produce content and receive and give sats as well. So I completely understand how you feel regarding grateful for the team and fellow stackers.
reply
Organizing an ask in the flow of website use might also be a good thing. Like I just checked my wallet balance and that would be a great place to put a donate button.
It is interesting. I believe Darth and Nemo used to donate regularly. It may have only ever been a couple of people.
reply
One of my favorite comments on SN by @DarthCoin about how to use the site:
I hope I will not reveal some algo secrets with this, but I found something funny and maybe useful for others on SN, especially for new stackers here.
Every morning I go to SN pool and hit the zap button. Once.
Then read the new posts from "all" and if I found something interesting I zap it. You should be the first one doing that and you will see why later. If there are already some comments, zap also those, especially those that weren't already zapped (if are good).
Also post a new comment in the new posts if nobody did it already. Of course if is really necessary, not just for the sake of commenting. Go to Saloon and talk with the funny nemo. Not too much, otherwise will zap you like crazy 😂😂😂
Post a good meta that people are interested too and engage in discussions. Not just post and leave. Engaging will bring you more visibility for your post. If you see that got more sats, go bacl to SN pool and hit that "donation" button again. You can do this anytime, many times per day. Don't worry are not lost sats, but contrary!
Do this all day, when you have time. Then wait for next day. Surprise! Your initial "donation" to SN pool is back, sometimes even more than you expect.
Why?
Because all the sats in SN poll will be redistributed for your previous "activity". As bonus, you have infinite cowboy hats!
Stackers, learn how to use SN...
I do not use SN to get rich... I don't need that, but all these SN sats I use them later to onboard many nocoiners, every fucking day.
reply
Still good advice.
reply
Maybe I'll give it a try.
reply
Yes, that's exactly the comment I was thinking about.
reply
An SN classic, I think
reply
I'm guessing that's going to make the October 11th edition of This Day in Stacker News.
reply
That is a possibility.
reply
Same for me.
reply
I donated twice today! 2 + 6 🤠
reply
I used to, but it seems like people are getting better at gaming the rewards system. I don't want to encourage bots and spammers.
These days I zap directly.
reply
Because they have territory fees draining their wallets 😭😭
reply
That actually might be part of it. Especially close to when it's time to pay rent. I know I watch my balance closely as the 5th approaches.
reply
Yeah, I also think that makes users generally less zap happy as their now holding their purse strings a lot tighter. Beforehand people would zap anything all of the time and it was one big happy zap sharing fountain... Now... I think people are much more picky with what they zap.
I've gotta get bitcoin on here a new way since for some reason my WoS (which I kinda use to just onboard to SN) isn't letting me buy via moonpay in my area... It let me last month... I don't get it.
reply
I like breez wallet as a good way to swap from on chain to lightning. I usually have a small bitcoin balance on exchange and then every couple weeks I send to cold storage, so when I am short sats in my lightning wallets I will just send onchain from exchange to breez wallet and then I can pay lightning invoices too with that balance.
reply
Hmm, you're right. I donate 100 to 500 Sats every now and then and think it's time to make it regular now.
reply
That’s the spirit.
reply
It should be. All of us who are in the top 20s or 30s on the leaderboard should do it. No matter how many, can be ant number. It feels satisfying.
reply
Sat flow been stagnant for me. My SN Bets was a flop and paying for territory every month kind of sucked all the fun out of randomly donating to the rewards pool.
reply
I do think there is some correlation with the territory fees. Territory owners are some of the most prominent stackers and I know personally around halfway through the month I start watching my stack closely to see if I am going to make it to 100k sats or if I will need to deposit.
reply
Add on top to pay from mobile only Is impossible now.
reply
I remember there was a problem you mentioned. Was it about having to switch to your wallet?
I can confirm it works but it depends on your browser keeping the tab active. You might need to close some apps to make sure it doesn't immediately kill the tab just because you switched to your wallet. So if you switch back to your browser, it should have to reload the page else it will fail.
We will hopefully fix this UX issue soon.
reply
I use SN as a PWA. I have noticed other bugs with it but this is one of them.
When I am in SN it doesn’t have any active tabs
reply
It's still a browser that's running a tab that it can kill and reload when you're not looking at it to save battery and memory
reply
Is this why the payment won’t complete?
reply
I’ll try to fix this soon. It should be straightforward to make this a nonissue.
What other bugs have you noticed? 👀
reply
So if you switch back to your browser, it should should NOT have to reload the page else it will fail.
What do you mean? Why can’t you pay with mobile?
reply
When I go to pay my invoice using my ln node the payment doesn’t go through. Even though I have a direct channel to the SN node and can deposit to hosted wallet easily using my LN address. Now wallets reject payments over 100k sats it left me unable to pay.
reply
I think I only donated once or twice to Rewards. It gives me greater satisfaction zapping the Stacker directly
reply
Understandable.
reply
Most SN users are here to earn, not to spend. Unfortunate but true. Silver lining: a lot of users are trying to be plus minus zero. Or roughly plus minus zero.
We have seen this from the debates about withdrawal frequency
reply
I think you can earn and still generously zap others and drop a donation into the rewards pool once and awhile but to each there onw.
I have found the more you zap people on SN the more sats you get zapped back to you and the more rewards you earn.
reply
I suspect that is a statistical truth that does not apply in the tails.
reply
You donate to rewards? You can donate to rewards? I just zap people man.
reply
Yes, I still zap people but usually when I get my daily rewards I donate at least 100 but usually more back to the rewards pool.
reply
I'm more in need of donations, personally. It came from giving much and receiving not as much in return. Equilibrium.
reply
I get that. One of the great things about SN is the more you zap others, the more you tend to get back.
reply
stackers have outlawed this. turn on wild west mode in your /settings to see outlawed content.
