And what if your ritual works for every day?

I used to practice vipassana meditation. It's funny that becoming interested in Bitcoin kinda took it's place and I haven't practiced for years. It is good for your mind and I should probably try to find some time to practice.

Why did you do it? Meditation is truly healing.

Coffee on the morning commute

But I talk to my kids screaming for the “snack bag”

reply

We all are, every day.

I take my black coffee in the garden and fart into the wind, its a peaceful life for the moment before the first product manager gets a hissyfit and requires everyone to sync up on a zoom call

If I wanted to improve my mental health I'd ritualize: sun, movement, laughter, friends, meditation, and a diet of mostly protein and fat.

reply

High fat diet is probably enough by itself.

reply

I would add to your list an insatiable love for life.

reply

I didn't read the full prompt before answering.

I start my work day very early with a cup of coffee. The peace comes from not having any other coworkers around while I ease into the day, plus then I get to knock off early.

reply

Coffee is what connects many of us and is the cliché of our times, there is no doubt about that.

Read or listen to a Stoic phrase

reply

I assure you I will try.

Not exactly a ritual, but - the carnivore diet. Since starting it more than 2 years ago, I'm much more calm, never anxious, much more likely to start conversations with people, less likely to feel down for longer chunks of time. Little OCD type things that I had have gone away.

It heals your brain. Keto and low-carb are also very helpful, but I believe carnivore is the best.

Check out the Dr. Georgia Ede book "Change your Diet, Change your Mind". The subtitle is "A Powerful Plan to Improve Mood, Overcome Anxiety, and Protect Memory for a Lifetime of Optimal Mental Health".

And that's exactly what it is.

reply

I agree carnivore is the best.

What we eat certainly reflects our physical and emotional state; food constantly strengthens and nourishes us. Were you a vegetarian before?

Hanging and playing with the cats for a bit (while the kettle comes up to a boil for the first coffee of course).

If you allow yourself to look out the window at nature and observe trees, birds and squirrels vicariously through cats, life seems simple for a moment and those TPS reports really don't matter

reply

Cats are unique beings; nature created them to demonstrate love.

some breathwork stuff: #863896

Also have a before-bed routine of opening the window and breathing 10-20 calm breaths while feeling the evening cold and looking out over the village

reply

I love those exercises, they make you feel alive and nature complements them.

reply

Does sleep count? :-)

reply

If that's your wake-up ritual, then yes

reply

Wake up in peace & maintain it the rest of the day.

reply

But that is a process that must be forged over time; peace must be both mental and physical.
