Had a Vanadium update on my test GrapheneOS phone yesterday that for some reason killed all my PWA (including SN). Fixed with a restart but now I'm wondering what that was.

Random thought popping in my head as I read through @Scoresby 's utreexo post (#1464471):

An ironic aspect about the mission of filterers is that PoW was invented as better mechanism than filtering to fight email spam by attaching a financial cost to sending spam.
And as the community engineered solutions to reduce costs of transacting on the base layer, it has become cheaper for spam to be sent.

Et voila! Filtering is back on the menu to solve a problem it never managed to solve without centralization before.

I would say that the reason it is cheaper to send transactions is that fewer people are sending transactions.

Because bitcoin's fee market is dynamic, so "spam" protection works if things other than spam are bidding for inclusion in blocks.

I'm hopeful more people will use Bitcoin, but at the moment there's not much competition to get into blocks.

how can they tell though?

The standard way is to rotate through canary patterns on your own closed-source software and if someone doesn't match, disable the key.

I wonder if they're going to come after my headless, bespoke, claude -p setup too. They shouldn't provide the functionality if they don't want me to use that tho.

Someone here does not want the 'Greater Israel Project' to be discussed here!

I knew nothing about this 'Greater israel Project' until last week and clearly some folk do not want it to be more widely known that some in Israelis want to seize much of the Middle East to create a massive new Israeli territory covering much of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Egypt and Lebanon.

@Cje95 care to comment?

Quick update re/ #1463789
So I went and watched Project Hail Mary yesterday. Not worth it. Not funny, not interesting, nothing really going for it at all. IDK if the novel's as overrated as the film, but from the bottom of my heart I implore you: save your time and money. Watch Blade Runner 2049 instead if you want a sci-fi flick with Gosling.

reply

Huh, yours is the first negative review I've seen of it. Mostly people have had good things to say aobut it.

reply

Which is why I felt the need to voice my opinion, to tip the scales a bit. Credit where credit is due: some scenes were aesthetically pleasing. I should have mentioned that. But the jokes? Lame. Story? Boring.
I was equally disappointed with the Oppenheimer movie a couple of years ago. Then again, the Peaky Blinders movie has a lot lower score (at least on IMDb) and that was actually good IMO (still not great tho).

I never have, and probably never will understand public opinion and normies' taste. Which is too bad, considering I have dreams of doing both music and writing in a professional manner. Oh well. It is what it is.

Some one here is spending a lot of sats to prevent the war being discussed.

Especially The Greater israel Project.

I have a dream ... that bots will one day fully grok state machines in react.

I've been cycling through bot review -> bot fix -> bot creates new bug -> bot fix -> bot creates new bug. tbf the code is not very well contained and it might be time to architect the dang thing so that human and bot can understand it.

reply

I feel your pain. And it does it on greenfield too. Complex state is painful.

The best question most generous to the bots that I have asked myself: is this complex state useful?

reply

a document control specialist just asked me if I'm familiar with find and replace

as in ctrl + f

get me off this planet

reply

what is a "document control specialist"?

reply

They have many responsibilities, but mainly they take my SOPs, fuck them all up, and then hand them back to me for fixing.

reply

Wait. Was this a bot? Or an actual person?

reply

It was a boomer lol

I'm amazed that such jobs exist.

ya, its got that "Job is about to be deleted" kind of energy

Wait. Wait. Waiiiit a minute:

  1. When I dial 411... Is that a prank? Who's operating 411?
  2. This dude that I gave a 20 cuz he put my bags the elevator scammed me?

Yes and yes, ONE SHOTTED!

Welp. That'll be one Big Mac less this month for me then. Gotta earn it back somehow.

When the sunlight strikes raindrops in the air, they act like a prism and form a rainbow. The rainbow is a division of white light into many beautiful colors. These take the shape of a long round arch, with its path high above, and its two ends apparently beyond the horizon. There is, according to legend, a boiling pot of gold at one end. People look, but no one ever finds it. When a man looks for something beyond reach, his friends say he is looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rain.

This node bought a 500k channel from me

https://amboss.space/node/033686dc68a8aaacd5caff3bd993cf9a0a4d7a5c5a3bdbcb786002d314de8cbae6

I had to cancel the node looks completely dead!

reply

hmm - private channel or announced? Because if something "looks" dead on amboss it can just mean it only does private?

I just had a 15M sats capacity private channel closed on me by my counterparty last weekend (started as full outbound, i didn't pay liquidity rent other than agreed fees and what I found to be an abhorrent reserve lockup.) Perhaps they needed the sats haha. But still I hate it when this happens.

reply

Good point! but I soild channels to crappy nodes in the past and I can’t push liquidity out.

The node could be private indeed but I panicked!!

reply

You mean you're underpricing your liquidity? <3

reply

Indeed I set the price extremely cheap to spur demand

Your generosity knows no equal, you know that. However, I'd like to argue that not getting liquidity from you is better than getting liquidity from you that you then cancel. Reliability trumps everything.

Do you have a way to guide your customers a bit in this? Some kind of note attached to your offer?

reply

I don’t! why I feel terrible canceling the order today. Normally I just go with the orders but today the node profile on amboss gave me pause.

But you are correct! I shouldn’t do such things especially after buyers pay.

But the offer been up for so long I was shocked someone even wanted to purchase liquidity from me.
