Good read, and good digging! I think you just need to talk a bit more about the data sample to give it some extra flavor/context. Quick notes:
Users are still able to see posts in an archived territory, but they can no longer post in it.
This reminded me how hard it is to see posts in archived territories.
The default zap amount is 10 sats, but users can customize their own defaults.
I thought it was 100.
After January 3, 2025, Stacker News decided to stop holding custody of user funds.
I think it's worth saying that legal issues drove this change.
Lastly, Stacker News does not employ any content moderators, nor are there formal moderators in any territory other than the territory owners.
I don't think that's completely right. I've never owned a territory, but I think there's some kind of moderation because the description on some of them says 'moderated'.
Thanks, good feedback!
bit more about the data sample
agreed, that would be the very next section
I thought it was 100.
hmm, I should check...
worth saying that legal issues drove this change
this is something I'm consciously trying to avoid, both because I don't feel equipped to discuss it intelligently; second, because I don't want to say anything wrong and imply anything bad about SN

A quick shout-out to the money transmission law would've been enough, just to set the scene.

disagree. keep legalities away...

why? its true

Truth is subjective. Highlighting SN values is much more important than arguing about legal nonsense.
Or do you prefer SN feel victim of this so unjust legislation... or do you? Common. Have seen enough of victimhood lately.

I think you're drifting from the context. Hit up k00b and ask him if it's subjective.

Causes may drive events to take shape in unknown ways. I know the point you're making, I just think hooks for lawyers should stay away and believe that SN is noncustodial for other reasons, not because its founder was worried about going to jail.

That's just pure B.S., They likely had that change planned anyway; the legal issue just pushed them to do it sooner. But for real, only @k00b knows the answer.

SN is noncustodial for other reasons
Any "other reasons" you want to share?
Because non-custodial is hard and we just love doing hard stuff?

other than the territory owners.

I think it is more about morality, ethics and values that define SN more than bs legal things
