I like the pen
It seems likely that in doing so hashers would be incurring some loss of profit (at least because of switching costs, but likely also due to payout structure or pool size, as well as the increased risk that not enough hashers defect to break CensorPool's majority) and switiching is definitely not in their immediate best interest -- possibly not in their interest at all. Does Bitcoin's security model in this situation rely on nothing more than the altruistic feelings of hashers? Hoping that hashers will do "the right thing" even when it's contrary to their immediate best interest?
Nice write-up! I think hashers acting "in their immediate best interest" is maybe a fair but not entirely accurate assumption. A lot of hashers are very knowledgeable about Bitcoin and would not put immediate best-interest over the viablility of the project as a whole. Why risk killing the goose? Something like this happened when Gigahash.io got a bit over 50% years ago. The pool didn't even exist for very long after that. If hashers feel legitimately threatened they will act, imo.
I haven't had one in probably 20 years or longer but am looking to get one done. I think I'm going to use InsideTracker. It's very expensive but since I haven't had one in so long I'm kind of looking for an exhaustive analysis.
"Association" is an understatement. Silk Road was the first time bitcoin was shown to have any kind of real world use-case instead of just being a quirky collectibe for a bunch of nerds. It was a foundational boot-strapping event.
Who gives a shit whether something is just "illegal" or not. All kinds of ridiculous things have been legal or illegal over time. The question is one of morality and principles, not legality.
Very interesting thanks. I was familiar with Niederhoffer as a long time student of the markets but I didn't know he was a libertarian or held this discussion group. Very cool you got to attend some of them

100%. Nick Szabo talks about how much of a historical aberration it is that countries are willing to trade purely in each other's fiat currencies.
I've always said the same thing whether I'm talking to a vegetarian or a carnivore. I point to my teeth. I've got meat teeth and I've got plant teeth. Seems pretty obvious to me.
It's a long-term habit but I find it very valuable. Once a year in January I do a three day fast. Have done so for nearly 20 years. It's difficult, but I find it a good time to reflect on being grateful for the basic things in my life, because there's nothing like being extremely hungry that will make you appreciate even a single meal. It's very cleansing to me and a good way to kind of reset and start my year.

I don't know if the US production base can really be rebuilt as long as the dollar is the world reserve currency. Triffin Dilemma.
I can say that for certain that the "club scene" in the medium-sized city I live in in the US is nearly entirely gone. It seems to have been replaced by higher-end cocktail bars. But you're right even here there used to be a thriving club scene in the late 90s and early 00s. Curious to see others chime in.
I tend to think you're right. I just wonder if there are some Rothschilds or Medici-type families out there that are truly old money that can keep their real wealth off the radar.
When it came to weightlifting, for instance, I obsessively learned everything that I possibly could. The goal, was always how do I effectively find the most efficient use of my energy to get the maximum benefit.
What were your conclusions?
Of course MyFitnessPal is extremely popular for exercise tracking and meal planning. Personally though I like Cronometer instead for the diet side and I use Jefit for workout tracking.
