Our experience is that Bitcoiners will travel to simply go spend their sats somewhere.
But yep, we'll be incorporating meet-ups etc into the app and are open to running events/discounts/faucets when we build up the sponsorship side of things.
Yep, we'll have a 'Support Us' page up soon, but wanted to get some other features shipped first.
We'll be going live on Geyser in a few weeks too.
OK, will do that.
People either tag them directly in OSM and we pick them up or they submit a location on a website and we tag it for them.
Great. We love finding stale data!
Can you update the tags?
'currency:XBT=no
is just as important as 'currency:XBT=yes
Much of the work we have to do as a community is to remove stale data from the OSM dataset. A lot was added back in 2014 and is likely stale. Local plebs and local meet-ups are a good way to do this.
We have a new tagging structure and so can start to show data that is likely stale, which we'll do soon.
This is the first FOSS attempt (s/w and data) to do this. We just need time as we know FOSS always wins in the end!
We've been toying with some sort of incentive structure a la SN, but some of us have tried this in the past with the OSM data set and it didn't really work. Maybe this time it's different!
New tagging regime:
Tagging is now:
currency:XBT=yes
payment:bitcoin=onchain;lightning; lightningnfc
Pick one or more.
If you're not sure what the payment methods are, then just use:
payment:bitcoin=yes
Very basic web site now up at btcmap.org.
If you're a web designer get in touch and we can make it pretty.
XBT is the official ISO currency code for Bitcoin. Interchangable with BTC, which is kinda the 'unofficial' but widely used code.
Currently, payment:XBT will display as on-chain.
We're currently debating the the OSM community on the most appropriate tagging regime: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/bitcoin-tagging/2302.
I would like to see onchain being explicit using the payment:onchain tag.
Oshi looks like a private data set. There are others taking this approach too. Our approach is for the BTC Apps and the data to be FOSS.
Hi guys - I'm one of the guys behind the BTC Map initiative.
The mobile app has been around a while, but we are now looking to spark a grass roots initiative to get venues properly tagged and we are looking for contributors to get a web app and an iOS app going too.
AMA!
