how do i list my venue on this app?
reply
the feed comes from openstreetmap every 24 hours
OSM tagging as follows:
currency:XBT - Bitcoin the currency accepted payment:lightning - Lightning accepted as a payment method payment:lightningnfc - Lightning NFC accepted as a payment method - bolt card payment:onchain - Onchain accepted as a payment method
reply
New tagging regime:
Tagging is now:
currency:XBT=yes
payment:bitcoin=onchain;lightning; lightningnfc
Pick one or more.
If you're not sure what the payment methods are, then just use:
payment:bitcoin=yes
reply
Great I'll remove payment:bitcoin and just use currency:XBT and payment:lightning for some of my listings I'm maintaining which are really lightning only.

Currently, payment:XBT will display as on-chain.
We're currently debating the the OSM community on the most appropriate tagging regime: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/bitcoin-tagging/2302.
I would like to see onchain being explicit using the payment:onchain tag.
UPDATED
currency : XBT
  • Bitcoin the currency accepted
payment : lightning
  • Lightning accepted as a payment method
payment : lightning_contactless
  • Lightning contactless accepted as a payment method - bolt card
payment : onchain
  • Onchain accepted as a payment method

What is the difference between the tickers BTC and XBT? BTC the asset and XBT the currency? Is the XBT notation widely used?
reply
XBT is the official ISO currency code for Bitcoin. Interchangable with BTC, which is kinda the 'unofficial' but widely used code.
reply
Thanks. Wasn't aware it was standardized.

Very basic web site now up at btcmap.org.
If you're a web designer get in touch and we can make it pretty.

Anyone know where this app pulls it's feeds from and how you can add businesses?

Here's the Tweet that kicked off the Twitter thread where this was first shared:
I'm on a bit of a mission to properly tag vendors accepting #bitcoin! in @openstreetmap. This enables other apps to use this data, such as BTC Map https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.btcmap/ and others.

And then here's the Tweet from the project's Twitter account that kicked off another Twitter thread:
We're on a mission to get merchants that accept #bitcoin properly tagged within @openstreetmap and beautifully visualised within FOSS mobile and web apps.

This is blank, currently, but their website will show the map.
Web app coming soon to btcmap.org

check out oshi app. just got some coffee there
reply
interesting, is it easy to find places integrated with oshi?
reply
Oshi looks like a private data set. There are others taking this approach too. Our approach is for the BTC Apps and the data to be FOSS.
Hi guys - I'm one of the guys behind the BTC Map initiative.
The mobile app has been around a while, but we are now looking to spark a grass roots initiative to get venues properly tagged and we are looking for contributors to get a web app and an iOS app going too.
AMA!

Really Great!

Is this basically a crowd-sourced wiki like app for bitcoin accepting businesses?
reply
Basically, yes. Using OSM as the database, which is essentially a map wiki.
