Personally, I'm going with ignorance is bliss. If this is a simulation, I imagine reality is probably much worse.

Bostrom’s Simulation Hypothesis argues that if advanced civilizations can create realistic simulations of consciousness, it’s statistically likely that we are already living in one.

They're probably nested too. The real question is how deep it goes.
reply
If this is a simulation, whoever paid for it should ask for their money back
reply
But what a time-line! I was born pre internet and I'm going to live to see the armageddon. Seems like a reasonable choice for a simulation to me.
reply
True. Very appropriate timeline for the main character

Some years ago my son and I were talking about such things and we came to the conclusion that the Dinosaurs faked their deaths and they are advanced beings living on a space station and playing us like video game characters.
reply
Ha! I wonder what a controller looks like for a T-rex. They have such tiny little hands.
reply
I believe they control us telepathically. They are advanced beings after all. But that would be funny.
reply
They have multiple brains, knowing me I'm being controlled by a highly evolved ass brain.
reply
Sure, but it's not any more or less meaningful of an answer to me than anything else. Whatever this is, we're in it now.
reply
That's actually a really good point. I never really considered it, but it actually wouldn't change anything.
reply
Philosophically, I think the right starting place is the fact that we have conscious experiences. That's the most indisputable fact and it's true regardless of what's generating those experiences.
reply
I may be moderately more anxious about who's in control and whether or not they would shut down the simulation, which intellectually i know is pointless. I don't spend any time worrying about a supernova annihilating out solar system....
reply
As near as I can tell, everyone's understanding of the universe includes something that's capable of unexpectedly ending all life on Earth.

I’d like to know the cheat codes

Do you really want infinite lives in this simulated universe? Think long and hard!
reply
Nope.
Gimme that juicy steak, all day long
reply
I agree every single time.

changing the subject only a little... last few times I've checked the leaderboard (I confess, an embarrassingly frequent behavior), Mr. Aardvark is now dominating. um... did you crack the SN code, or what?!
reply
Yesterday and today I've just been posting and commenting more. It's not something I can, or would want to do everyday.
I also have a suspicion that some of the guys are less active on the weekend, but I'm just as surprised as you.
It's a good thing too because my territory rent is just about due and I'm at 51874 sats for the month, so I'm only 1.8k sats in the green. That's sats from all sources, not just the territory.
reply
Wooooork haaaarder!
But yeah, impressive. I've never been at #1, even early in the day before all the Austin peeps wake up
reply
Low quality shit posting...
Lol this
reply
It doesn't matter too much, since if you took a red pill and woke up in "base reality", you'd probably discover that it, too, is a simulation.
reply
Ahh shit.
reply
I'ld want to know.
But at the same time, I wouldn't want you (or anyone else, for that matter, to know).
As Mad Max / GTA would be the best we could hope for.
reply
I create my own reality!

if(world.isSimulation()) delete world.me;

The cheatcode.
reply
I go with fuck them whoever runs this show. They can delete me already as I won't bow to their authority and accept their grading. And I don't care to apply for a managerial position or any other job in whatever hierarchy. I do think, however, that ours is the base reality.
reply
What if you chose to be here in the first place?
reply
If I don't remember, there was no consent.
reply
If you consented to not remember, then there is consent.
reply
My attitude stands. They prove to have no power over me with every passing minute.
reply
What if the simulation has nothing to do with power? This could just be a vacation.
This is a sign of the existence of the devil. Because Satan's most important dilemma is his learned helplessness. He was given a certain amount of time and he is trying to instill this learned helplessness in everyone who has a certain amount of time. Yes, our time is limited, but it is in our hands to use this time in hope, goodness and beauty. Rather than believing in the mysterious power that makes everything look bad, the best way is to believe that everything can be better and to strive in this direction. Conclusion: Reality is not bad, we create it.
reply
I'm fine not knowing. I do want to look into the matrix, but I am at the point now where I just want to enjoy life and not be so tin foil hatted.
