As near as I can tell, everyone's understanding of the universe includes something that's capable of unexpectedly ending all life on Earth.

I may be moderately more anxious about who's in control and whether or not they would shut down the simulation, which intellectually i know is pointless. I don't spend any time worrying about a supernova annihilating out solar system....

Philosophically, I think the right starting place is the fact that we have conscious experiences. That's the most indisputable fact and it's true regardless of what's generating those experiences.
