My issue is that I'm always concerned about doing the wrong thing. I'm a newer member and there's no real consensus on what type of recruitment should be done. If there's something that people sort of agree on, I'll happily do some leg work.
Whenever I bring it up though, it seems like half of the people want to just get more bodies, while the other half wants to he highly selectively.
What jumped out at me from the clip (and probably should have been mentioned in this post) is that apparently many people are aware of Stacker News, but harbor very inaccurate views of what it is or basically pretend to be unaware of us.
@Car stated definitively that many, perhaps most, of the big names in bitcoin are not only aware of SN, but regularly visit the site (either anonymously or pseudonymously). I find that a little disturbing, because it really means that they are set on not promoting us, even after being convinced of our value.

Outside opinion. I don't give a shit about the "big names in bitcoin"
15-20 years ago there were really big names in podcasting that nobody has even heard of today. Bitcoin is rapidly growing and so is it's userbase.
Would it be nice to have someone with a bigger name get on the train? Maybe, maybe not, but we certainly don't need them to grow SN.
reply
I don't really care about them either. However, the growth logic is different if they already know about and value SN, but don't promote it.
💯 it’s far worse than you think. Always going to keep it real, one of the few that does.

Am I over the target with the motivation?

No stay the mission.
SN is far too important for it to fail because of “perceived” competition by the stackers.
When you are great at something, unique and better than anything’s else that’s come before nothing can stop it. It becomes inevitable.
That’s what I believe.

I believe that too. I was wondering if I was in the ballpark with what the "known bitcoiners" motivations are for not promoting SN or if it's something else entirely.

I’m saying it doesn’t matter. It’s just noise and a way for people to throw you off your game. When you’re building something great you need tunnel vision. Stacker News success is not determined by outside forces never has been. All it needs is for it to keep growing at a steady rate to sustain itself.
Most Bitcoin companies never make it past 4 years, SN has already done that. Most builders hardly stay on a single project more than a couple years. Keyan and Ek have already done that.
Never been more bullish on SN.
The longer you stay in the space the more you realize most of the people getting the most attention work like 2 days a week and just do the Bitcoin celebrity conference circuit. Keyan works like 6 days a week 14hr days. I wouldn’t bet against that.
