I came to appreciate capitalism through Rand but had trouble with this very thing. She asked readers to be independent, stoic, and thinking yet romantic, spontaneous, and reverent. I ended up squaring the circle by admitting she was exaggerating for effect. I'm happy to learn she admitted it somewhere.
