"National security concern", that old chestnut.

I mean tbh I don’t know anyone in cyber security on or off the hill that use it. They cut off usage for government devices over a year ago as well so I mean 🤷🏼♂️ plus the CCP having a “golden share” in the company is highly concerning 😂

So much for first amendment rights. While I never used TikTok this is unbelievably dumb. All three branches failed Americans with this injustice

National security has been proven to supersede many rights. This kinda goes all the way back to the founding of the country for what it’s worth

Why do you think this violates the first amendment?

It’s a platform for speech

True, but it's also spyware. And in the meantime there are dozens of platforms for speech on the same scale. It's not like this is restricting anyone from saying whatever they want to say to whoever they want to say it to. Doesn't seem like any political influencers are going to lose their audience, they'll just move somewhere else.
I don't see how any individual's rights are being violated here.

But Tik Tok users are migrating to another Chinese social network, Red Note. This platform allows users to share short videos, photos, text messages and live streams.
The numbers have already surpassed 500,000 in a short time

Red Note is already working to separate the international and main land app users after the Chinese Government got upset. Plus they are suspending and kicking people off left and right for violations like saying LGBTQ and other “western” terms lol

Lol as someone who never used it it doesn't phase me, but its a good example of why you shouldn't be placing your livlihood on a platform, you just asking to get rugged

Im sure there will be a work around right away.
That is what VPN is for.

The work around is so much worse lmao. So called "tiktok refugees" just migrated to native Chinese app with no English translation support called Xiaohongshu or little red book (the media will refer to it as red note despite being an inaccurate translation)
Its been interesting to watch and I'm still interested in how things will turn out. Because I'm pretty sure those Americans are just trolling...but will they eventually get bored and move on? Or will they actually like the app and keep using it lmao.

Well so I am sure you have seen how that app is actually linked to mainland China and so the company is being forced by the Chinese Government to separate the two because it goes through the Great Firewall. China doesn't want any sorta random crazy idea like freedom to criticize people to make it through!

Sorry I'm a little lost, which app are you referring to? Because of course Xiaohongshu is linked to mainland China. Its a Chinese app for Chinese people that doesn't even have English translation support. Its so interesting watching people jump from tiktok over to Xiaohongshu, and yes it is as you would expect heavily censored and yet "tiktok refugees" are still using it.
We'll see how long that lasts though.

So almost all apps available in the US are not connected to Mainland China due to the Great Firewall. This has become an issue in the eyes of Chinese Officials who have ordered the company to do what Bytedance did and essentially create a Chinese Mainland version and an international version.

Interesting. Wonder if that then becomes a constant war of Americans trying to get on native Chinese apps which come out with international versions that then get banned in the US or if Americans will just give up lmao.
My guess is Americans (by that I mean the social media addicts) give up.

I thought the same but I read somewhere that because TikTok ties to users phone numbers the VPN wont work for the account. It will still flag it as US
