A joint venture between McCarthy Building Company Inc. and Jacobs has been chosen to design and build a $160 million desalination expansion project in Southern California, the companies announced
Will treat salt water in the West Coast Groundwater Basin in the southwestern part of the Los Angeles Coastal Plain and establish a more reliable local drinking water supply for the district's residents, doing away with the need to import water.
The basin provides groundwater, the district said, to about 11 cities and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
In addition, the project will increase the drinking water production capacity of the Robert W. Goldsworthy Desalter Facility, also located in Torrance,by nine million gallons per day.
This is possibly afirst-of-its kind nano filtration and reverse osmosis treatment for a municipal brackish water facility,
according to the joint venture
The expanded facility is expected to enter full-scale production in 2027
Love to see it! Secure that water production!
