It’s often claimed that China, aspiring to world hegemony, plans to wage war against the United States. Democrats and Republicans alike warn of an impending war. Joseph Solis-Mullen, a libertarian who often writes for antiwar.com and knows a great deal about China (although he claims he is no Sinologist), dissents. In his view, China poses no threat to America. The difficulty in the relations between the two countries rather stems from the fact that China has built up sufficient military capacity to have a good chance of defeating an American assault aimed at defending Taiwan, which is hardly evidence of Chinese aggression. Solis-Mullen maintains that the United States ought to withdraw from Taiwan, which in his view is clearly an area properly under Chinese sovereignty. Doing so, he thinks, would greatly improve the chances of good relations between the two countries.
This is.a different outlook on China-US relations, not seen through the eyes of the Neo-Con perspective. This may be a more sane appraisal of the situation. However, can we take that chance.
I don't agree with the idea that Taiwan belongs under "Chinese sovereignty", but Taiwanese sovereignty is not worth ending the world over. That has to be the framing whenever the US is sticking its nose into other nuclear powers' business.
China has sufficient military to defend itself and they know America has sufficient military to defend itself. All this posturing at though they're going to fight each other is enormously wasteful.

What the Taiwanese could do is mine and wire everything the Chinese are trying to take and then tell them if they make one move in their direction everything go BOOM! Taiwan has been a battleground for all sorts of people; Chinese, Japanese and Taiwanese for a long time. I think the Chinese think they have a mandate from the gods to take the whole world as theirs, much like some other people we know, but who must remain unnamed. Their name as written by them means the Middle Kingdom, that is, the kingdom between heaven and earth. Therefore, they are, or should be, the rulers of the planet. Now where have I heard that before? Hmmmmm … WEF?!?! The Taiwanese people I have met are really friendly and easy going, and the Kuomintang (Chinese exiles from the mainland) are not so easygoing or friendly.

Taiwan is, in fact, a self-governing country... it has an independent capital, government, currency, anthem, flag, armed forces and powers, but it sustains itself with the support of the United States. Taiwan produces more than 50% of the microchips currently sold worldwide and more than 90% of high-technology chips. This gives Taiwan a very particular situation. If there were a Chinese annexation, an invasion or even a Chinese blockade of the island, which would apparently be more likely, there would be global economic losses of great magnitude in a short space of time. What can be expected is that the governments of the United States and China have common sense, seek understanding, and avoid a large-scale conflict that could harm the international economy and international politics as a whole.
reply
Oh, you are not Chinese!! The biggest problem is that governments do not have common sense at all. They cannot evaluate value or future consequences because the drones in the bureaucracy have no skin in the game and do not suffer the consequences of bad decisions. They hardly ever do the right thing.
reply
Exactly, I'm not Chinese and I'm not expecting common sense from China. What I commented on was the commercial and geopolitical implications on a global scale in a possible conflict... which would be terrible for the weaker party, which is Taiwan
reply
It would be terrible for everyone, everywhere. Warmongers just do not get it! War is the worst catastrophe you can think of. It is economically, physically and personally deadly for all involved. Even for those supposedly not involved, everyone suffers. Now, doesn't China have defense agreements with other countries and the same with Taiwan? Wouldn't it drag all those other countries into the war? It is all due to the psychopaths running things in every country.

Summarizing in a logical way
We can see that anti-state ideology is a necessary condition for establishing and maintaining freedom. The advantages it has over pro-state ideology are that, first, it appeals to the interests of the majority, and second, it relies on the truth about the nature of human action.
reply
It may appeal to the majority, but it is difficult to get by the gimmes that are available in a democracy when people find they can vote themselves goodies from other people. Parasites suck.
