Do you think superfoods are really helpful or just a fad? They include:
  • quinoa (a wheat-free protein that has two times more protein than rice). Packs all nine essential amino acids, is high in fibre, and has high levels of calcium, magnesium, as well as Vitamins B and e
  • kefir (most popular fermented milk beverage in Russia). Contains probiotics just as yogurt, which is known to support gut health. Can contain up to 20 different strains of probiotics - three times that of yogurt. Has anti-microbial, anti-tumour and anti-carcinogenic properties
  • acai berry (one açai berry contains two times more antioxidants than a blueberry, and 10 times more antioxidants than a grape). Used to treat minor afflictions like nausea, diarrhoea, skin infections and allergies.

I think there’s a lot of information about what people should eat put out by people who have a lot to gain (monetarily) if you take their advice. That’s not to say any of those foods are bad, I love quinoa and açaí. Are they “super” though? Probably not.
I’ve seen people fall down this rabbit hole and what I’ve found the best advice to give and to follow is to just eat what makes you feel good, which in my life includes a bit of everything. It’s not good to eat sugar all day just as it’s not good to eat vegetables all day.
I’m no expert, but I’ve settled into a place where I’m happy. As long as I have the energy for the things that I love (yoga and hiking) I consider myself aye-okay.
Probiotics are super helpful though, they happen to make my life easier lol.

I agree totally. I also think a little vice is necessary for one to live a fun life. That’s why I devour my coffee and occasional beer with gusto.
Great that you can identify the activities that yield you energy. I think modern day people - including me - are too stuck in their daily rut and are unwilling to make a change

I had funnel cake powder sugar on Saturday. 12 bucks. No regrets

I used to believe in "superfoods". I ate whatever was promoted as a superfood, usually sprinkled on top of my morning oatmeal. Think almonds, chia seeds, blueberries.
Then I learned more about REAL nutrition from the book The Big Fat Surprise: Why Butter, Meat and Cheese Belong in a Healthy Diet. It totally changed my way of eating. I eat carnivore now, and it's changed my life. This is the post I wrote up about it.
Also FYI - lots of "superfoods" are actually full of oxalates, a toxic plant chemical that over the years causes really negative side effects. Some of the worst offenders are almonds, chia seeds, and spinach - all thought of as superfoods.

Thank you for your comprehensive comment. Will check out your book review

"I got u the 4 basic food groups - beans, bacon, whiskey, and lard."
reply
For sure,
Some of the so-called superfoods are good. However, I have a bit of an issue with the term itself.
"Superfood" is just another word for promoting a healthy lifestyle. Some products in this category are greenwashed to appear healthy, while others genuinely are.
I stick to psyllium husks and turmeric, occasionally adding a sulfur-rich diet and regularly taking some vitamin supplements.
There are too many factors involved in this topic to list all the benefits and criticisms right now. :)

You are back! I have missed your inputs.
Also wanted to use sitzpinkler (slang for wimp, a man who sits to pee) with you. I picked it up from the book I’m reading now haha

It is useful but it is not only necessary to have that but also to have a healthier life.

It seems like pretty much everything that is really food has been labeled a "superfood". The distinction to me is between whole foods and highly processed foods.

I drink lots of kefir. Quinoa sometimes too, it's a common staple here. Açaí I've only had in Brazil, but they put godawful amounts of sugar in it. I consume blueberries more often.

My son will be great pals with you. He eats blueberries every morning religiously

Unless you can do 150 minutes of cardio per week and 120 minutes of strength training you shouldn’t be talking about any food.
reply
Ouch. I will repent
reply
Yep. Don't even eat food unless you're in the gym 6 days a week.
reply
Yes, meat eggs and fish.

Sounds like a healthy diet haha

From this list I only know Quinoa, my daughter loves it, in the country where I eat from none of these super foods exist. We discovered Quinoa when we traveled to Peru.
reply
How do Peruvians consume quinoa?
reply
It is consumed mainly in the mornings, for breakfast. They prepare only Quinoa, and sometimes they prepare it together with Oats, it is a hot drink ♨️

Kefir every night before going to bed.

ice cream is my go-to superfood, and i have yet to try raw milk ice-cream. raw milk is the real milk that i drink. probably going to make that ice cream myself next calendar year.
kefir is great! been drinking it my entire life.
reply
Raw milk as in straight from the source? Unpasteurised? Where do you get it from then?
reply
raw milk is milk directly from clean udders. pasteurization kills much of the milk's benefits. why is mother's milk not pasteurized? mothers are not even dewormed annually.
in my town, i get it from a natural food store, where a gallon costs up to $20. i can also drive to one of the very few milk farms that are allowed to sell raw milk (i.e. via official banking systems, cuz banks ultimately decide what gets sold), see the cows myself, and get it at the regular price, $15/gallon.
reply
Cool! Thanks for the insights. I can’t wait to visit a farm with my son and show off my newfound knowledge haha
Will you drink goat’s milk? There is a goat farm in my country
