When I was young, my father and I enjoyed watching boxing together. If Mike was fighting, we were watching. It felt like everyone was.
Now I am much older. I don't generally watch sports. So why am I so excited for this ridiculous match up? For me, it's a brilliant experiment. A cocky young YouTube star vs a boxing legend who is way too "old". What a spectacle. I enjoy observing how people react more than watching the boxers themselves. Mostly I have observed a sentiment of "I want mike to win, but he is too old" and "This is just bad". Everyone focused on the age difference.
Boxing is clearly about more than what we see in the physical. Everyone is talking about the physical. I want to consider the spiritual, emotional and mental aspects.
Mike clearly has a much higher level of self awareness than Jake does. He is more aware of his short comings and strengths. He has experience and wisdom. This helps him in the ring but also plays a roll in him agreeing to this fight. He wouldn't have taken it, if he didn't think he could win. He understands his ego and emotions better than Jake. Mike has sat with ๐Ÿธ ๐Ÿ‘€
Jake is deluded. He is young. He is still controlled by his ego. He thinks he can do anything. He will be humbled eventually. That time could be now. How poetic. I enjoy poetry.
I watched the weigh in today. It was quite entertaining. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scNgUkVxl2E
This was my take away.
At the weigh in, Mike slapped Jake. He expressed his dominance over the young boy and said, "time for talking is over" and walked away. This showed a lot of emotional and mental strength. The crowd is asking for engagement and Mike says no, and just walks away. He looks super focused and prepared.
Jake came off as scared. Jake got all emotional, and started yelling and screaming. He couldn't help himself. He is completely controlled by his ego.
Think about how dogs interact and when one knows he is the "underdog". Little dogs are noisy. Because they are scared. And if Jake is scared, he won't be able to show up fully, he will lose mental focus and then physical results. Mind over matter.
"He is is most certain wins". I don't know where I heard they but I always remember it. Winning any contest comes down to will. Who wants it the most... I think Mike Tyson is clear about what he wants. And he wants to win this fight in order to write a brilliant final chapter in his boxing story. He wouldn't have taken this fight if he wasn't clear in the fact that he was going to win.
Jake wants everything, which means he doesn't know what he wants. He still is a child mentally. His emotions often get the best if him.
Who deserves to win? Who is the collective pulling for? Don't we all deserve a happy ending right now?
And let's not forget about "old man strength". My 60 year old me would kick my 28 year old me's ass. Why is that? ๐Ÿค”
I am putting some sats on Mike. Betting is only fun when it's on the "underdog"..
I like this site because I don't have to sign up. ,๐Ÿ‘‡
What do you all think about my uninformed hot takes?
Who do you think will win.

Last year I went through and watched every old boxing match of heavyweights like Tyson and Ali. My impression was the great knockout moments were few and far between.
Mostly it's a grind hence the phrase, "going the distance."
I'd love for Tyson to catch Paul and put him down and if anything interesting is going to happen it's probably that. Otherwise it's a short fight so I'm prepared to be disappointed as its called by decision for a less-gassed Paul.

Time will tell. I'm excited to watch.

Also, if it's staged, the markets would suggest there is more money to make by having Tyson win.

That's only if Paul wants a short term profit. His whole fighting enterprise is pretty young and can make a lot more money overtime.
If it's staged, I think you'd want, incentives wise, Tyson to knock out Paul. Then have Paul do a comeback fight and knockout Tyson, then Tyson do a comeback fight and have Paul knock him out again.
reply
Interesting. That makes sense. I didn't think about that deeply at all.

I'm looking forward to watching the fight. I don't normally watch boxing, but it isn't often you get to see Tyson box.

This clip fucked me up when I saw it. If you haven't experienced this you can imagine it. There's a sort of locked-in mindset where you give yourself permission to be crazy to get done what needs to be done. I suspect Tyson has an easy time getting there.

I remember Mike Tyson going on Rogan around 2020. He hadn't fought or trained in a while. They chilled. Smoked weed. Drank. Cracked jokes. Funny guy.
Then he came back about a year or two later, with a fight coming up, during his training.
Completely different guy. Intense. Brooding. You can sense the energy building up ready to be unleashed in the ring. Joe tells a story that the reason he got a wider table for the podcast was Tyson scared him since he sat too close to him that episode.
Tyson is a very interesting person. A man and also a demon.
I hope he pummels Jake into oblivion.

I bet you are right.

Does anyone here know how to get a stream of the fight without a Netflix or any other accounts? Can things like that be pushed over to something like zap.stream?

I usually stream NBA games using Stream East or Meth Streams. It's seems they both will have the Tyson vs Paul fight on. See if it works later tonight.

Cool. Thank you.

Seems like they're showing the prelims on YouTube. Don't know if they will also show the main event there.

Me too. I'm going to watch it for a lot of the same reasons at the OP. It is nostalgic. I even set a reminder, which I almost never do.

I'm rooting for Mike. Everyone is different but old man strength with Mike can't be denied, not sure about the young cat, only time will tell.

Also, I thought JP handled the slap pretty well.

I think itโ€™s a lose lose situation for Jake
He gets beaten by Tyson he is shown he canโ€™t compete with even retired boxing greats let alone current. He beats Mike he looks like he beat up an old man and thatโ€™s no great feat either
reply
I agree... He really can't come out looking as good as he thinks he will.

Great analysis. And awesome coming from the perspective of someone who doesnโ€™t follow sports that closely.
It seems everyone is rooting for Mike. I think there are a couple things at play. No one likes the arrogant young kid and donโ€™t want to see a legend get embarrassed. I also think some of us who are past, or even well past, our athletic primes are rooting for Mike to prove โ€œold dogs have something leftโ€.

I like your take. Mind over matter indeed. Been rooting for Mike since day one and I also have money on Mike. I hope Mike humbles Jake like you said, as Jake is long overdue for a humility lesson.

as a child of the late 80s / 90s, i will be spiritually crushed if iron mike gets a bashing.
generally, i dislike both the Paul twins on a vibe level, but they know how to generate hype . it's a win win for Jake - if he wins, he wins and if he loses, he's lost to mike tyson, which is still nothing to be ashamed of
reply
I am that age also. And I feel you are right about Jake. He doesn't want a win as bad as Mike does. I think the collective wants mike to win which is also why I think he can do it.

i loved wwf as a kid and again in the 2000s and this whole fight has a very similar feel to that with the same feeling of , almost dread, that the favourite will lose.

I think Paul will win solely due to age. If Tyson catches him in the first couple of rounds with a hard shot, he might drop Paul. My guess is that power is still not a problem for Mike Tyson. But, the longer the fight goes on the more it stands to lean toward Paul winning. If he's smart, he'll fight smart and stay away from Tyson early. But, I don't know!
Bottom line, looking forward to a Mike Tyson fight is a real throwback and flashback in time.
reply
That makes sense. I think Tyson will take him by surprise early on.

I'm pulling for Tyson. Paul seems too cocky to me (though I honestly have no idea who this dude is...I see him described as a "YouTuber" which is #1 likely why I don't know who he is and #2 a top reason I'm rooting against him). My guess is Tyson will go in like a bull early, like he always did, Paul will try to jab him away, use his length advantage, and dance away to try to wear him down. Your take about Tyson getting him early makes sense. In basically every fight he was in that's exactly what happened time after time after time.
reply
I agree. And I think it's time he gets humbled..
