Daryl Davis converted over 300 KKK members by talking g to them. Ghandi also comes to mind. There was also Jesus....
People have absolutely changed the world by being kind, forgiving, and talking logically.
Did anyone change your mind by being dogmatic and unforgiving? Because it seems to me that it's that exact behavior that's had an opposite effect on you.

There is a difference between those who want to learn and those who refuse it. No one changed my mind but myself - pursuing it of my own accord. If someone comes to me genuinely, I am more likely to speak nicely about it, but those who come for the sake of argument will receive dogma.
I will, however, forgive no one that wished me to lose my job or wished ill upon myself or my family.

You didn't read any books, listen to any podcasts or any arguments from anyone else? You came up with everything on your own? I get that you mentioned this to show the difference between you and other people, but I am mentioning this because I think you're not aware how easy it is to get subconsciously influenced.
For example, people tend to think that advertisement doesn't affect them but when it comes to the split-second decision if you buy X or Y, you will buy the thing you have already seen before and you won't even notice that you made this decision.
Mhh, okay, that's a nuance I can get behind. See? You convinced me by not being dogmatic and explaining the details, lol.
I get that but you don't have to get down to the same level and embrace dogmas yourself
good territory choice btw, this post is definitely ~based

The global scientific communities overwhelming consensus is that we should be afraid.
That we need to take urgent and collective action to prevent devastating changes in the climate.
Libertarians prefer to deny all the science and evidence than accept a situation where government might have an essential role in preserving a safe global environment.

You mean the psycos dressed as doctors? There's virtually zero science being their claims.
Anyone with a pair of neurons should always deny "science" and "evidence", aka propaganda.

All for healthy skepticism but not so much blind cynicism.
The evidence is overwhelming that climate change is real and dangerous...and caused by humans.

Great sources no doubt.
Correlation is not causation. I would recommend educating yourself about numbers and stats as a tool of deception and astronomical phenomena that could MAYBE rethink your faith in our cherished fiat science.

The science of GHGs causing climate change is over 100 years old...and very firmly established.
It is now demonstrable and evidenced in the world.
The bounds of Libertarian denial of facts and science seems unlimited.
Skepticism is healthy but cynicism can be blind and dangerous.

It's not really about being "nice" or being "mean". It's about having solid ideas and being firm about them and explaining them well.
I believe that if your ideas are good, you will convince people to your side, whether or not you take a meaner or nicer stance about it.
reply
1 sat \ 2 replies \ @libertas OP 10 Nov
Of course we don't have to be "mean" for the most part. "Firm" is the better way to put it.

If your ideas are NOT good you will often resort to bullying, bluff and threats, rather than engaging in a respectful fact based and reasoned argument- because you cannot win that.
reply
45 sats \ 0 replies \ @SimpleStacker 11 Nov
True. When you have bad ideas you can only resort to emotional manipulation. Either you're mean to bully and intimidate people into agreeing with you, or you're nice to make them feel good so they agree with you

I share your feeling, I didn't get any vaccines during the Plan-demic either. And I decided to go wherever I had to go, they tried to manipulate me, and they tried to prohibit me from entering markets, banks and other places, but I continued with my thought 💠that that was useless, and that they would soon stop bothering me about vaccines when the majority agreed and that's what happened.

Any community has a right and a duty to protect itself including its most vulnerable mombers.
Your insistence upon putting your 'rights' above the need to protect more vulnerable members of the community is something that any community might be expected to challenge.

Fuck off with your communist bullshit, you statist twat. You're the exact type of person this post is referring to. I don't have a duty to do a damn thing for anyone, nor would I willingly subject myself to a community who believes otherwise.

Your own words demonstrate what I am saying better than I could ever express myself.
You claim to not owe anything to the community you are a member of yet you still depend upon the many goods and services it provides- with zero appreciation of your weakness and inability to fend for yourself without its support.
Go on Alone program and see how long you last away from the support of the state that you naively take so much for granted- within 24 hours you will be begging for a blanket, a coke and a Big Mac.

Are you saying because an individual may depend on others, that he immediately has the obligations and duties towards those he depends on?
reply
0 sats \ 0 replies \ @Solomonsatoshi 11 Nov
In general yes.
Humans are weak and vulnerable individually.
In groups however we gain considerable strength...as long as the members of a group contribute what they can, all are better off.
Libertarians do not seem to understand this.

I see t-shirts, etc, all kinds of crap, with "be kind" on them.
I have the same thoughts. Like you were "kind" and "thoughtful" by wearing a mask, to protect people. But in reality you were participating in a world-destroying alternative reality.
The truly righteous people never EVER put on a mask. I knew some of them.
They weren't "nice". But we need more of them. (For what it's worth, I'm not one of them).

I don't know too much about Ghandi, but what about Ghandi?
I strongly disagree, we need to be able to explain our views to people without resorting to dogmas. Our arguments need to consider context. If we want people to just follow dogmas, they will get misunderstood and then it's too late for people to think for themselves.
I already see this with a lot of common bitcoin memes. Dogmas are for NPCs.

I have nothing to add. This is solid. And 100% confirmed by our experience in Argentina. Milei says it straight and clear: the left is a terrorist mob that will breach every conceivable boundary in order to fulfil its sole purpose in life which is to destroy you. Leftists are untreated deranged people. So, you can't reason with deranged people and you can't negotiate with terrorists. You don't concede anything to terrorists. You defend yourself and leave them no ground.
It's as strictly literal as it sounds. Period.

How about not being nice just because it's "the right thing to do".
Do what you think is just. Regardless, our closed ecosystem will eventually try to snap back to balance. Bees in a hive do not all agree on what is the ideal temperature of the hive, but the variation will always remain within a channel.

the manner in which the truth is projected makes no difference on the validity of truth.
writing in all caps and red text, or beautiful standard proper english black-on-white cursive, screaming or whispering, still makes the message true.
the satanic lying propaganda usually tends to be pleasing to the eyes and ears, with fun tones and pretty colors.
feelings in response to the message are ephemeral, they do not last. i am not buying the validity of this message - "people will always remember how you made them feel." people usually make stuff up on the fly when asked "how did you feel?". feelings cannot be accurately reproduced, they are a purely physiological reaction in the moment. the type of response to the same message usually changes over time as well.
