In uncertainty I am certain that underneath their topmost layers of frailty men want to be good and want to be loved. Indeed, most of their vices are attempted short cuts to love. When a man comes to die, no matter what his talents and influence and genius, if he dies unloved his life must be a failure to him and his dying a cold horror. It seems to me that if you or I must choose between two courses of thought or action, we should remember our dying and try so to live that our death brings no pleasure to the world.
reply
The art of being loved is to first truly love yourself. Once you do this, love will come into your life from all directions and the fear of dying unloved will disappear :)

I just watched The Grapes of Wrath (1940). An incredible piece of cinema, perhaps one of the greatest films of the 20th century. It tells the story of depression-era US and a family pushed to the limit and forced out of their home.
From the first scene it had me captivated with a kind of mise-en-scène and dreamlike artistry that only black and white can deliver.
As a pairing with "Citizen Kane" (1941), the two films tell the story of the New Deal, of the struggle between urban and rural America, of a world of financial collapse and great depression. Perhaps we are beginning to relive aspects of this now almost 100 years later?
There is nuance to the film: the FDR-type figure in the clean white clothes helping the family, red scare, unions, charity, god. The references are perhaps too subtle for modern audiences and I wonder if people back then were more "street smart" in watching this kind of thing.

You might or might not know, I really enjoy sharpening tools. Yesterday I was asked to sharpen a commercial pizza cutting knife from a pizza store that I used to work for in my early 20s. It is also the first time that I get paid for sharpening something. It's interesting how a hobby can sometimes turn into something that pays.

It's possible that's the case. If someone enters the post before the comment is deleted, the "zap" button is available. If no verification is done at the time of the zap, the zap is successful. Good observation!

Or...
  • When choosing a woman who works, know that she can handle the housework, however as her spouse you should be happy and willing to share the load
  • If you make a mutual decision as a couple that the woman will take care of you and fully manage the house, be ready to share equally what you earn
  • if a woman depends on you, know that she can also be depended upon and there is no hierarchy, meaning there is no need for obedience
  • if you choose a woman - know that she is strong and has her own opinions - give her the chance to share them
  • if you choose a woman, know that she is as beautiful as the next, no matter what society tells us and be happy to support her in making her feel that way
  • if you choose to support a woman in whatever it is that she chooses to do, know that you will both be successful as she will also choose to support you.
The only part I don't feel the urge to change is:
There are no such things as perfect. Everyone has their own riddle, which makes us unique.

Made this clip from the Unchained podcast by Laura Shin. https://fountain.fm/clip/JO4GujaaACldPIr52NWs It's about a bitcoin layer 2 called Botanix. I'm not against L2s, actually think a ton of innovation can and will occur there, but...I dunno.
Sounds like a lot of steps, a lotta trust places, and a lotta chances for me to screw up somewhere along the line.
So, what you gotta do is...
. start on Ethereum . use a bridge to port over to Botanix . then you have wrapped ETH . then you can go to uniswap and swap wrapped ETH for bitcoin . then you have BTC on bitcoin
Love the last line in the clip, "Right, right."

Driver

The word Driver refers to a Person who drives a Vehicle, and is considered an act of commerce within the legal court.
The word vehicle refers to the thing used for “transporting people or goods”, which is a service.
Notice the reference to “person”, this is a legal fiction and refers to your legal identity only.
If you accept this title then you have lost your status and have agreed that you are an employee and “consent” to any inspection, and accept the consequences.
Driver Black’s Law Dictionary, 4th Ed. Revised 1968, p. 585: One employed in conducting or operating a coach, carriage, wagon, or other vehicle, with horses, mules, or other animals, or a bicycle, tricycle, or motor car, though not a street railroad car. A person actually doing driving, whether employed by owner to drive or driving his own vehicle. Wallace v. Woods, 340 Mo. 452, 102 S.W.2d 91, 97.
reply
A person actually doing driving, whether employed by owner to drive or driving his own vehicle.
What does "or driving his own vehicle" mean? Seems like you're ignoring that part of the definition in bias of the first sentence.
reply
13 sats \ 3 replies \ @Lux 3 May
Note that the definition of “driver” includes one who is "employed" in conducting a vehicle. The definition of “employed” signifies both doing a thing and being under contract while doing it. A “driver” who is “employed” under contract is in the service of another, is liable to perform certain duties, and is also entitled to just compensation, for example a taxicab driver, truck driver, bus driver, limousine driver.
reply
includes, but does not seem limited. The most general definition seems to be "a person actually doing driving" but driving itself is not independently define in the law dictionary.
reply
13 sats \ 0 replies \ @Lux 3 May
driving itself is not independently define in the law dictionary.
but you can see it in Driver's license any type of license issued by the state authorizing an individual to operate a motor vehicle on public streets, roads, or highways and Driving privileges means the authority granted to an individual that allows the individual to operate a vehicle of the type and in the manner for which the authority was granted.

Did someone in the saloon recently mention that they started using Obsidian for note taking? I first heard about it from someone here. It's pretty cool. It uses markdown and seems like it would be great when writing complicated SN posts. Any good sources on helping with the learning curve? I've been using the old trial and error all morning.

Still have this open in a tab: #525972
I've tried Obsidian/Notion/other notetaking tools, still haven't found one that works best for me (or more accurately, still haven't taken the time to really organize stuff).
I do enjoy watching a guy on YT named Jeff Su who posts some solid tips for organizational tools (though he's mainly on Notion these days), but be warned that the YouTube Organization/Notetaking rabbit hole is deep.

Thanks. I like the use of markdown and the use of links as a substitute for folders with Obsidian. I'll check out those videos.

Feel like some semblance of normality has been restored. Although my complaint about MSM etc was the game-able nature, it also seemed very unfair to new joiners. I hope newbie Stackers now feel they are getting timely rewards for contributing.

Drew down and crafted a bit of my " bank" setup yesterday, and now the flow is about earning - caching & spending - saving. I used to work in finance, and the mindset during that time was earning - spending & investing ( investment is also a form of spending) because you know that if you don't do anything, your money will lose value, so people either need to figure this out themselves or pay someone else to do that on top of earning money, now with all the inflation and bank account frozen, it must HARD to actually sit down and THINK for yourself when you are constantly worrying.
And it seems people always want more and more in the fiat world like it's NEVER enough, but your time in this world is limited - why waste it to chase unlimited money that others can print out of thin air?
But with Bitcoin, all you need to do is well keep the seeds, not only can you sleep like a baby ( no one can take Bitcoin away from you ) , but also you can focus all your time and energy on learning and creating, and doing something actually meaningful with your precious time.
reply
why waste it to chase unlimited money that others can print out of thin air?
