I would say I'm more of a late bloomer when it comes to drinking coffee regularly, in fact it's really been the last few months or so that I developed a routine of enjoying a cup of Joe on a daily basis. I used to be quite caffeine sensitive so I would get super jittery, anxious, and get cold extremities, but with a gradual and regular intake of coffee my body has built a tolerance towards caffeine, and I now am able to drink a cup a day no problem.
With that being said, I want to get into exactly why I drink coffee.
I drink coffee as a source of energy, and no not from the caffeine, especially given that caffeine doesn't give you energy, it just gives you a perceived sense and illusion of getting a boost in energy. I use coffee essentially as the solvent for the energy I put in it, which are different kinds of fats that I mix into the coffee. In the morning I usually create a concoction that mixes in grass fed ghee, MCT oil, cinnamon, dark chocolate, half and half, a bit of cocoa powder, and sometimes a shake or two of salt. This coffee mix basically is my breakfast, but without breaking the fast as much as an actual meal would. I've been doing this for 4 or 5 months now, and really like the way it allows me to start the day. It puts me in a productive frame of mind, and I also like the way it energizes me through my training and workouts which I prefer to do in a fasted state, or in this case semi fasted. Not only that, the energy from this coffee lasts me well into the afternoon so I could easily not eat until 3 which opens up more capacity for me to do things as after you eat your body starts using energy to digest and metabolize. I usually only drink one caffeinated coffee per day, and if I'm feeling another coffee I'll make myself a decaf one since I do enjoy the taste of coffee.
Coffee seems to always be a contentious subject as some find it to be beneficial for health, others see it to be harmful, and others are more in between. Personally, from a purely coffee perspective, I appreciate the taste and aroma of coffee, and it serves as the best solvent for my needs.
I'm curious to know how stackers view coffee. Why and how do you consume coffee? Has it helped improve your life or made it worse? Are you for the consumption of coffee, against, or ambivalent towards it?

You really treat your body like a shrine, huh?
As a teacher who starts work at 7.45am, I’m afraid that my morning routine doesn’t allow me to make my coffee. I typically have one cup of black coffee (no sugar) at the coffee shop at around 6.45am. I NEED it, otherwise I will feel cranky throughout the day. I can even feel that I’m developing a headache though perhaps it’s the Placebo effect.
I used to have a second cup of coffee during lunch at school. A perk-me-up so that I can better manage the rascals under my charge. But I have killed this habit this week.
That’s because I occasionally had a third cup of coffee in the evening before I picked up my children. However, this week, I read an article from a government agency about how drinking three cups of coffee will exceed the recommended caffeine intake for my day. So I abandoned my afternoon dose and savour coffee at around 6.15pm, enjoying my Me time until I have to pick up my kids.
I don’t particularly care if the guides say no caffeine intake after noon. My evening cup is for SURVIVAL purposes haha

Reading this from a coffee shop right now ☕️
Put it this way. It's absolutely true that a good workout and shower is all you need in the morning. But it's also true that good things come in 3s, innit?
Good workout + good shower + good coffee ✌️

I struggle with that. Maybe some vices are ok? Life is very short.

I remember when my wife finally decided to dump the coffee, it was an epic 2-3 weeks of withdrawl and now she’s finished with it cold turkey. From her POV, removing coffee and eating meet has had major impact on her life, along with fasting which brings an incredible amount of focus.
I’ve attempted coffee but I just can’t get into it!

Caffeine headaches are the worst. I drink coffee it's just not who I am.

Luckily I haven't experienced caffeine headaches but I'm with you. I can live without coffee, but I do enjoy drinking it as well and I never overdo it so, so far all is good!

1 cup a day while scrolling SN. Highly recommend.

I drink instant Folgers black every morning......afternoon and night. I eat 1-2 meals a day and run about 10 miles a week. Recently I've noticed that I wake up with more energy and have less trouble falling asleep.

I used to do a pot a day, switched to decaf with butter.
Bone broth is an excellent breakfast or anytime energy drink. Sometimes I will add butter and honey to it, or just some salt. I make my own from deer bones.

Bone broth is amazing! I have some in the morning as well, but never have tried butter and honey in it. Will give it a try! Yet to have deer bone broth as well.

As somebody who has a concentration of blood in my coffee system of about 4%, I love this post.
I intend to start experimenting with adding fats to my coffee when I get around to it.
I do have a very extreme trend towards excess, though, with anything, so occasionally when my intake builds up I have to take a week or two off, and with it comes pretty bad withdrawals.
I don't drink, don't smoke, so allow myself this one vice as it's relatively harmless compared to the others!

It’s soothing. I had too much caffeine with a pot a day and got heart palpitations, so decaf mostly now!
reply
Yea I experienced something similar when I was younger and had one too many energy drinks. Was a bit scary with the heart palpitations and stuff...
