Recently went to see Victor Wooten and his brothers in concert. His mother had a saying that they played in their intro video.
"If the whole world decided to follow you, where would you lead them? Think about that."
Its a great question. Think about it.
Peace, fun, productivity, I mean if they do what I say. If they actually do what I do they'll be lying in bed late on a Monday.

good question. i’d lead them to farmers markets, libraries, and parks.
where would you lead them @kepford?
reply
Its a question I've been thinking about for a long time. Honestly, I can't come up with a better answer than Jesus.
To me the value of this question is realizing that what matters most is what you do, not what you think. It starts with thought but if that is all that ever happens then has anything happened? Proof of work. What are you doing in your day to day life? Are you kind to people? Do you speak truth or lies? Do you treat others the way you would want to be treated? Even if they don't deserve it? When you do the right thing is it for the right reasons? Do you have integrity? I fail in many of these areas on many days. Do I own my mistakes or do I blame others? Am I accomplishing my goals or making excuses for why I'm not moving forward. When I fall, do I get up or just get mad.
So if everyone was following me would the world be better or worse? Thankfully the whole world isn't following me. But, we all influence others and sometimes we do not realize who we are influencing or how much impact we have. As a father, husband, and son this hits me hard on many days. I look at the life of Jesus as my template.
I feel like this answer isn't great but it is a start. I think we underestimate how much impact we can have. If even a small number of people would live like everyone was modeling their life after them I believe the impact would be immense.

Super important point. I think Benjamin Franklin has a quote that goes something like “Well done is better than well said”.
reply
Yeah, I love that quote.

I would take them back to 1960... Let them see that it is possible to live without smartphones, internet, color TV, etc.

Yes unfortunately. Most people follow their tribe, which has been usurped by psychopaths at unreasonable scales.

Must have been an amazing concert. I saw him with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones many years ago. He is incredible.

It was. Stanley Jordan opened up for them which was a treat. Super underrated dude.

I would lead each person to his or her self.

That's exactly what Victor Wooten says on one of his albums.

Home to be with their families, communities and to stack some sats of course. Sure they can stack sats away from home too but being home reminds you why you should.

It would be more about where and what I'd want to lead them away from. Away from following the crowd, from doing what everyone else is doing, away from societal expectations so they can find their own path and passions in life - without having to follow a leader.

I would increase the average attention span.
I think the world would be a better place.
reply
Indeed this is a huge flaw in society. I've recently been working on increasing my attention span. I can't fix the world but I can try to improve one small part of it in my control. Me.
Do you have any advice on increasing one's attention span?
reply
The first thing I did was to completely remove all the notifications from my devices.
I check them when I want to, not when they want to.
I also try to consume more long form content (i.e. books, movies, etc.) instead of short (i.e. tweets, headlines, etc.)
Writing also helps a lot. Keeping a journal has been proven to be great for your mind. I am planning to make this more often.

There is a difference between leading and driving. There is a difference between leaders and rulers. Many CHOOSE to follow their rulers. This as well as violence are where power is derived. True leaders do not need force.
reply
True leaders do not need force.
Absolutely.
The King doesn't have to say to anyone that he is the King. He just behaves like one.
reply
Important bit on this perspective is that we CANNOT control others. If people decided to follow you this is a decision which you do not control. Unlike being a ruler where you can resign and relinquish your power. Many have tried reject leadership and failed.
Its one reason I think this question is great. I can only hope to control my own actions. So with that in mind how would I live my life if everyone chose to follow me.
reply
we CANNOT control others
True.
Having said that, manipulation is a powerful tool used by anyone wanting to have any kind of power and influence in the world.
reply
Yes, of course. But manipulation is the antithesis of this question.
One of the most powerful psyops in the world is how the sociopaths warp the thinking of good people. Even those that see them for what they are. We get distracted by the psyop. We see it, but are on defense instead of offense. Its a trap I often fall into.
reply
You still need to convince people to follow you.
At least in a democratic country.
