Can't select titles because it has an element on top.

@k00b

Bitcoin has been running from 2009. You can get any single transaction from that time up to today.

Think about that. Any news story or photo, or website you've seen in 2009, most probably is long gone now.

Preserving things on the era of the Internet is very important, specially when all our lives are now digital, plus with the constant hacks we are seeing these days we can lose big chunks of our life in a day.

Bitcoin on the other hand keeps adding block after block, with all the transactions securely stored in the blockchain.

Society these days rarely value anything that is more than a couple of weeks old.

reply

Your words ring true, in this day an age we don't look at the past, we don't really value where we came from, we just lie in the now

reply

Very true.

  • My first iPhone, the 3GS was released in June 2009. There’s no way that is of any use to anyone now besides recycled metal.
  • YouTube Channels launched in 2009.
  • The Hangover the film was only released in 2009. Avatar, Up, Inglorious Bastards too. That was a good film year.
  • Social Network, Inception, KickAss didn’t follow until 2010.
  • Square was founded in 2009, with their proper public launch in Oct 2010. If only this 2009 tweet had been about Bitcoin Jack…

  • Even Slack, which I thought was earlier, was not released until 2013.

I love the Hangover Series

Hey @k00b, in sats what was the largest zap ever on SN? Don't want to know who sent or received it just wondering if you know what the largest one was? I know we had some big ones during the Anita satsraiser.

reply

Legit ones, ie after sybil fees went live, 1.3m on the anita satsraiser. The next highest legit ones were bounty payments at 1m. Then 918k on the btc++ satsraiser. Then more satsraiser stuff and bounty stuff.

It drops off pretty quick after that. A little more than ten 100k zaps on random stuff.

Average zap is 72 sats.

reply

Cool. Thanks for the insights.

reply

If you have the option to be creative rather than emotional, be creative.

reply

I think you can't be creative if you are not a bit emotional. Good ideas comes from strong emotions about something.
So both are kind of linked.

reply

Great point!

Thanksgiving is a yearly reminder that we should be dehydrating bread and rehydrating it with something tastier than water.

Messing around with Liquid this Saturday. I actually really like it, maybe it's finally time for L-btc to become more used.

reply

Time to get some weekend exercise, some weekend rest, some weekend etc

reply

The 'etc' is 'try not to be a fatass' i think

reply

Do you think Kramer knows he’s Kramer? I think about this a lot

reply

Yes. Iirc he's commented about him being "you know... Me!" while kramering out because some potential girlfriend or something. But I only saw all episodes a year ago so memory can be shoddy.

reply

First day of the school holidays, and I’m off to my parents-in-law’s place in the Land of the Rising Sun. Hope to learn more and write better next month!

Last minute I was last minute invited to hang out with a bitcoiner in town, who was with a friend of mine, about 45 minutes north of me. I had no plans, so I went ahead to meet this bitcoiner. (I'd never met him before, but he was hanging out with a bitcoiner friend I do know) He is in town with his pre-coiner wife, who's surprisingly open-minded about the whole thing. Turns out this recent convert had dived head first, and knew a few of the people I know in the community. We had hamburgers and steak. Then some ice cream. I drove home. No traffic. :)

I love meeting other bitcoiners, and growing the bitcoin family. Now to try to finish one of these essays to read at brunch tomorrow!

reply

I love these types of interactions too. It’s often difficult to call it a day and not keep ’yapping’. Probably the closest experience a human can have to being a young puppy.

It’s priceless having so much in common with strangers, and nerding out. Only thing that’s perhaps missing, is having a secret handshake

reply

the handshake comes just before joining the underground economy. no need to hand out willy-nilly.

reply

Great Saturday everyone!! The weekend has begun and time to relax, reflect and recharge. The three R's as I call it. Today is a good day to treat yourself with something YOU want. An ice cream cone, a nice juicy steak, a beer, a new pair of shoes, a fancy dinner, some peace and quiet and a glass of wine. Anything you desire is there for you because you deserve it, it was a fast week but hopefully it was fruitful and profitable. Just take today to rest and feel good. I wish you all an incredible weekend, may it be filled with joy, love and success. Remember that you matter and you're important my good friend. Thanks for being so awesome and let's just chill and enjoy. Be well and stay frosty gang!!

reply

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving Coach.

reply

Sure did my friend, had to work but it was good, was thankful for each and everyone of you and all the things I've got this year, it has been a great year. Have a phenomenal Sunday!!

Saw Napoleon last night. Was very disappointed.

spoil alert

Just ended up being a love story like what in the entire hell. So much history to draw from and the whole movie was about his obsession with his wife. Absolutely ridiculous. Don’t waste the fiat to see this.

reply

Weak sauce. Hollywood needs new movies about new topics!

reply

Thanks for the review. I was debating on watching it, but I'll wait for it to stream.

reply

disappointing... reviews are surprisingly poor as well. was looking forward to watching this one

Sorry guys, I'm kinda busy these days with some work, can't join too much on SN & Saloon.
But I try to keep my cowboy hat on.

No need to apologize buddy. When life happens there's nothing we can do but live that life. Let us know if there's anything we can assist with. Even if its just to cheer you on ;)

yes, all feedback is appreciated!

one thing to keep in mind is that this landing page will specifically be targeted for people who might never have found Stacker News through the typical Lightning chatter on the internet.

imagine people who are Bitcoin-adjacent or just general early tech adopters who haven’t ever used Bitcoin.

reply

Should say forget likes, stack sats. Also, I would recommend not using the terminology "get paid". "get rewarded" maybe.

reply

If you’re feeling poetic:

  1. Daily chats, earn your sats
  2. Share ideas, paid from peers
  3. Earn in sats, for unique chats
  4. Post a link, earn a drink
  5. Post something new, bitcoin for you
  6. Earn Bitcoin, for discussions you join
  7. Share a link, get paid in a blink
  8. Receive a Zap, for news ASAP
  9. Post a story, for magic money
  10. Pocket money for rocket stories
  11. Magic money, by being funny
  12. Make a post, earn the most

Anyone got any faves?

Top of funnel marketing stuff doesn’t dictate what’s further down the funnel. It just helps get people interested in moving down the funnel at all.

Bitcoin’s top of funnel is NGU even if we’d all argue there are other reasons to be excited about bitcoin.

Would you mind elaborating on that recommendation without straying too far in your reasoning? Why is using "make money" bad - specifically?

one thing to consider is that outside of our Lightning community basically nobody knows what sats are

reply

I think this is why the word ‘Zap’ is important.

  1. I asked someone “do you know what the word zap means?” and she couldn’t answer.
  2. Then I asked what do you think of when I say “Zap your friends” she instantly said “send them money”. But couldn’t articulate why, besides saying it is definitely not anything bad. It was the only reasonable explanation because there’s no other context that fits.

I believe this is something we can lean into more. Having a catchy word or verb to grab attention sometimes adds a) intrigue, b) a mysterious hook and c) sometimes people get the connotation without needing to have had any prior exposure to the word.

Hopefully you can do some more user testing like this to confirm which catchy tagline is best.
