Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.
Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!
We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!
You would think work would start slowing down closure to the holidays, but my workload is picking up, like the years wasn't long enough.

Good morning stackers, hope you all are well on this beautiful Saturday morning and I hope all your issues are sorted so you can "stack" and "zap" away as per usual.

I'm on an iphone 10 and it's fine
reply
I tried the firefox browser app as well, no dice. Can't even log in. The login button doesn't work/click.
reply
I can't zap or post using Safari on my iPhone.
Anyone else experiencing this problem?
reply
No. Safari and iPhone 10 all good here!
reply
Yes I am having same issue @k00b thought it was just me. I can't click the "Reply" or "Zap" button.
reply
Weird. I’m replying on an iPhone right now
reply
The errors I get on browserstack.com imply the browsers don't support modern javascript or something. I'm not sure why that would change other than us turning on production source maps in the latest deployment.

It is an older device - iPhone7. Just double checked and I definitely can't click the "reply" buttons.
reply
Can you send me which version of safari you're running? We might be using an API that isn't supported by an earlier version and I can check for it
reply
Sorry about delay - I am on 15.8 too. Issue created here: https://github.com/stackernews/stacker.news/issues/656
reply
IOS 15.8 if that helps.
reply
Yes. iPhone 7. Definitely not working for me. I have to post n Zap on my desktop.
reply
how do you survive on an iphone 7 😢
reply
reply
lol. camera alone is worth upgrade... these things get so slow and bloated after 3 generations behind...
I assume it worked for both of you before. I suspect you're being forced to run an old version of safari.
reply
It did work as recently as last weekend.
reply
We pushed an update this week which is likely when it broke. I just don't have access to old devices/browser versions so it's hard for me to troubleshoot.
I guess I'll try to see what changed line by line and see if I notice anything weird but it works in all the browsers I try.
🤙 snl starting at 4ish texas time today.
Should we visit the saloon?
reply
Yes! We'll be waiting for you. We need to do something with this stack.

I find it really scary how good AI has gotten at deciphering images... here's what chatgpt says about the above graphic:
The image depicts an illustration of a cartoonish figure resembling the Grim Reaper, symbolizing death, with red laser eyes. This figure is wearing a black cloak and holding a scythe. The figure also has the Bitcoin logo emblazoned on its chest, indicating a connection to the cryptocurrency. The background shows a corridor with doors marked with increasing dollar amounts from $35,000 to $39,000, suggesting a rising price. Each door has blood splattered around it, except the door marked $39,000, where the figure is currently standing. This imagery implies that as the price of Bitcoin increases, it's as if the Grim Reaper is 'killing' each price point, metaphorically moving on to the next 'victim' as the value climbs. The inclusion of the Bitcoin Magazine logo indicates that the image may be associated with cryptocurrency market commentary, using dark humor to represent the volatility and possibly the demise of lower price points as Bitcoin's value surges.

I've been disillusioned lately with my work, which sucks because when I started this position not long ago I was very excited about it. I hope things turn around, but as it is my goal is to finish my apprenticeship in the next few months and start assessing my circumstances and aspirations. I want to go to Brazil next year and visit my cousins, as I haven't gone in nearly three years and it's been even longer since seeing some of my family. More domestically, however, things go splendidly with the local bitcoin community, We have a leased physical space for organizing and activating. I expect amazing things to come out of it over the next year and in the years to come. I don't know if or how I can combine my professional life, bitcoin, and my passion for community building, but next year would be a great time to find out.
reply
Sorry to hear about your work dissatisfaction. I remember you talking about your job and I had the sense that it was a satisfying occupation. You seemed to really like it. Good luck with your next move.
reply
I'm the only person in my department, but recall I'm relatively new to the industry, so some supervision sometimes would be helpful. I feel mismanaged. I still like the job more generally, and hope that things change in short order. A month and a half ago I was overwhelmed with work, and that was better than now where I feel like I have little to do, despite the yard being full of superyachts.
reply
I think the best management is no management.
reply
If only I were so lucky. (Maybe next year)
reply
It happens to the best of us.
Maybe you can time your visit next year with a Bitcoin meetup or event. I’d be up for a hop across the border if there was something focused and productive. A hackathon of sorts. Might be just what you need.
Do you mind me asking, which type of apprenticeship are you doing?
reply
I don't mind your asking. I've written about my work here in the past. I'm in a Yacht Service Technician program, and I work as a yacht electrician. I expect to attend several meetups while in Brazil.
reply
Thats awesome and fascinating! Will check-out some of your posts

Howdy gang!!! It's finally Friday!!! Woot woot! The weekend is about to begin, the week went pretty quick but it was a great one, full of productivity and the job got done. Now, it's time to reflect on how our approach worked, to find if it needs tweaking or a different point of view to get our desired result. Time to recharge ourselves as well and to give ourselves a nice treat for a job well done. I wish you all a phenomenal Friday, may it be successful and profitable. Thank you for being and remember that you matter and you're important, never forget it. Be well and stay frosty my awesome friend.
reply
Howdy partner. We made it to Friday. I'm also officially done working for the day. I'm looking forward to the rest. You must enjoy your Friday.

I read an article in 2012 calling Bitcoin a scam and never bothered researching more. I can still kick myself. Even if I just participated in those Bitcoin faucets back then would have been a good use of my time. I only got involved in Bitcoin when the project I joined had Bitcoin payouts. The project turned out to be a scam but thanks to that experience I grew my knowledge and understanding of Bitcoin. Today I am well versed and somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to Bitcoin and the Fiat system.

I just noticed something now: 223 and 23. Lol. I know it doesn't mean anything but it looks cool. I guess you started your push-up challenge on day 220 of snailposting?
reply
I started on day 201 with one push-up. Each subsequent day I increment the daily push-up count by 1.
So on day 250 I'll be doing 50 push-ups, on day 275 I'll be doing 75 push-ups, and when the challenge ends on day 300 I'll be doing 100 push-ups.
reply
That's some next level commitment. I'm looking forward to the 100th push-up. Hopefully that's the day when we see Bitcoin trading at the $100k price target.

I absolutely hate it when people say Bitcoin is backed by nothing. What about the ridiculous amount of energy that goes into producing a single Bitcoin? What about the Bitcoin code? What about the millions of miners around the globe solving complex equations. What about tje cryptography used to safeguard individual wallets. Most importantly, what about every single cowboy in the SN Saloon?
reply
I find the term "backed by" to be rather incoherent.
Does it mean to be redeemable for something, as old currencies were for gold?
Does it mean hard to produce, as we see with precious metals and real estate?
Does it mean value derived through threat of violence, as claimed by those who say the USD is "backed by the US military"?
Does it mean a combination of the above, or something else altogether?
It's one of those terms whose definition is so muddied and confused that I find it fruitless to engage with.
reply
I agree. I just find it very annoying when people use that as their argument.
reply
Exactly, it's backed by a growing community and can't be stopped

Well said.

Bitcoin doesn't need trust in third-parties. That's what makes it so special. Anyone can run the blockchain on their miners and start validating transactions. Its a perfect system.
