Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.
Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!
We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!
Why do spending Sunday and fun fact Friday only happen sporadically? The names suggest they happen every ${fri/sun}day

Oh wow, just seeing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page for the first time. Might be a nice default tab for me given I'm already excessively on SN.

I want to finish up participating in part 2 of the Broken Money book club but first I want to merge pending prs and deploy personalized feeds.

I need to clean my laptop screen. I thought for a second @k00b had added wizard hats, but it was just some dirt perfectly placed above one of the cowboy's hats making it look pointy. Haha.
reply
wizard hats... idea for a new feature? hahaha, I like wizards
reply
I think the ordinals wizards ruined wizards for most stackers.
reply
Good point... I am too much into rpg hahaha and maybe I was lucky to don't know a thing about ordinals.

@k00b petition to add a "pin comment" to top of post replies for OP? Could be useful in case the OP wants to add additional context later for people to see, or highlight and correct fk ups (in my case)
Also watching F1 Academy races building up to the US Grand Prix with my son. He's mostly playing Roblox! 🤣

going through something I don't post or talk about much, but it is getting really rough lately. a custody battle with my nearly six year old son's mother - a narcissistic bi-polar.
rough times...
still I stack sats and seek humility
reply
Sorry to hear that, sending support your way!
reply
Appreciate it!

Damn that's tough. Hopefully in all her flaws she is a good mom. I think the greatest fear for any parent is to lose a child and second to that is to not be able to be around for their child. I have always taken solace in the fact that if anything ever happened to me or if things did not work out between my wife and I, our kids would be ok because she is a great mom.
I hope everything works out for you.

Thanks so much!

Do not under estimate fat people.
reply
shut up and pay for his healthcare...
reply
We need to talk about it. Fiat currency is the least of our concerns compared to the obecity pandemic,
reply
Counterintuitively, as long as you remain relatively productive (carry a job and pay taxes) fat people might be ideal for the system... pay taxes into the system, die of an MI in their 50s-60s.
Contrast this with the costs of supporting 90 year old grannie with slowly progressive dementia who retired at 65, has been drawing social security checks and Medicare for decades, living in a long term care home with recurrent trips to the ICU for pneumonia. Estranged kids who don't visit in the hospital continue to say they "want everything done".
Obesity is terrible for the individual, but it is the long term costs of the elderly that is bankrupting our system.
reply
Food for thought (see what I did there). The obesity pandemic is a symptom of the fiat system's reliance on excess consumption.
reply
Obecity is a lack of education, its a lack of accepting something is wrong, and its a lack of wanting to do something about it. So you cant solve anything until you have solved obecity imo.
reply
On a general level there will always be obecity, but when its so widespread as it is today, forget about solving any other problem.
reply
I understand this can make the situation kind of hopeless but maybe thats because it is.

I don't like the name sn-goapi that I have chosen for a library in Golang to access the Stacker News API.
Anyone has a better name?

You're not new, you'll find the way, right?
reply
Shot in the dark You didn't give us much to work with.
reply
That's true but there isn't much to work with, haha
It's just a library to use the public but so far undocumented Stacker News API from Go

Stacker News API from Go
snapigo, then?
I doubt this is worth the effort.

I like this one.

Imagine you're Satoshi and you show up in a saloon full of bitcoiners and proof that you're Satoshi and then everyone tells you "congratulations, now go fuck yourself" and you get kicked out of the saloon
And then you're proud of them

at least give the man a beer, outside in the desert will be thirsty.

I managed to accumulate enough sats to buy a $10 supermarket voucher from Bitrefill. Small time game, I know but it made me happy to know that there’s one thing I never have to rely on for fiat 🤗
reply
Enjoy that feeling!
reply
It’s horrible having to dip into your tomorrow stash today but it helps the bitcoin ecosystem in its way… and you can eat!
(I work minimum wage and have very little left for stacking but I am hoping even a few sats put aside now will make a difference in the future)
reply
Yes, eating is important! Haha
Hang in there, mate!

Snaily has adapted to the times. Ninja's have to embrace modern weapon types.
Reminds me of the movie: Ninja Assassin.

Nice. Captures the mood. Apropos of nothing, I was watching WC Fields clips last night. His world seems like another planet.
reply
It’s over 100 years. The entertainment world and comedy roots he came from are certainly alien to todays internet connected world.
reply
I was entertained, though the crappy sound quality sometimes made it tough to catch what he was saying. He had that strange delivery.
reply
Many years ago I had a senior, though very quirky, work colleague who had that eloquence / verbosity (I think that is the description) with his words and that delivery which I took for a posh drawl. Now, years later and I often do impressions, with great affection and fondness, of him and I have come to the conclusion he lived his life speaking like WC Fields. And that gives him the last laugh as none of us realised at the time.
reply
He was incredibly talented. I think he wrote all his stuff, his physical comedy was great. He was even a really good juggler.
reply
I heard he started as a juggler. But he was also very rehearsed with his material and that may explain why he was so protective of it.

@k00b the LN-auth is still not working. Did you find out something?

Are there certain reproduction steps? I signed in with LNAuth via BlueWallet yesterday and it worked for me

with alby configured this way (it's an old account)
all this happen after alby released the latest version with onchain swap or something like that. Not sure if is related, but I didn't changed anything in my login settings.
If I use the same alby account configured in Zeus or Bluewallet app and login, it will go to a new SN account not the original.
reply
try with alby using the browser

Yeah. The traffic in the saloon have been very slow these past few days. I guess cowboys don't enjoy drinking rum anymore.

I'm thinking Jim Beam. Does the job for a workingman's price.
reply
I've never had Jim Beam. Johnnie Walker and Jack Daniel's I would consider reasonably priced for the workingman.
reply
I like Jack Daniels better, but Jim Beam is real Kentucky bourbon. It's cheaper than Jack Daniels, and Jack isn't exactly high end either. Johnnie Walker has a little more Scotch snootiness.
reply
I will have to check if the local liquor store sells Jim Beam. Jack Daniel's has a reasonable price range in South Africa hence its popularity.
reply
Same in the U.S. I'm not an expert, but my friends who drink high end bourbon consider Jim Beam good for the price. I have tried their expensive stuff, but I can't tell the difference. I'm happy with my Jack.
reply
Don’t get me started on whisky’s…. I do love a drop of Jack. Some of the high-end JDs are very nice.
Wow. Quiet today!
reply
Yep. I wonder if it's the beginning of a trend
