I know this is off topic, but I'm curious if you know anything about Orphans Of Uganda charity? I'm thinking of doing a Satsraiser and I would like your opinion
reply
I have no insight just my small donation I made on geyser
reply
Thanks. Do you know if Geyser has any vetting process? I'm impressed with this orphanage but I want to do my homework before asking everyone to donate to a Satsraiser.
reply
I can’t say I know anything Was going to ask if you could recommend a charity for some spare sats.
reply
I like the idea of finding a small charity where we can really make an impact. I also want to be careful and do some research first. I am corresponding with the man who founded Orphans of Uganda. I will keep you posted.
reply
Of course - and you thought all that due diligence work was behind you…
And no pressure but it does seem you have been nominated as the default ‘sat-raiser wrangler’ round these parts. I think the default hating will have to be Bitcoin For Change in the meantime.

Just when you think you've heard everything there is to hear about spiders:
Under the leadership of Professor Maria Elena de Lima, researchers from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) embarked on a journey to understand the pharmacological mechanisms behind priapism caused by the spider's venom. Their ultimate goal was to develop a safe and effective drug for erectile dysfunction.
reply
You can do a lot of cool stuff with venom. I used to work next to a company that harvested taratulas and scorpions for this purpose.

I think I see you @mudbloodvonfrei 😉

Can't remember the name, but on a podcast a month or two ago, there were 3 or 4 guys talking about how much they'd learned from their grandfathers - not their fathers. One guy even remarked that it was interesting that their fathers appeared to have had less of an influence/impact on their values, lives, upbringing, etc. than their granddads did.
Since I never got to meet my grandfathers, I was wondering how typical such an experience (perception?) may be.
What did you learn from your grandparents that your parents didn't necessarily care too much about?
reply
I knew both my grandfathers and one great grandfather, who made it to 101. One grandfather believed a shot of whiskey before bed was good for a child who was sick. My parents disagreed. My great grandfather drank wine all day and kept a low wage, low stress job. Claimed it was the secret to his longevity. My other grandfather drank his way through the depression and remained unemployed most of his life. He's the reason my father worked his ass off and gave me a strong work ethic.
reply
Thanks for sharing.
gave me a strong work ethic
My father passed away well before I was 25, but not before instilling his strong work ethic in me too.
reply
For me it's nothing. I have two awesome extremely high character parents. I knew three of my grandparents, but one died when I was little and I view the other two more as cautionary tales (which is a way of learning from them, I guess).
reply
And yet, you're literally 'Undisciplined'? Just kidding, of course.
But seriously, heart-warming to know your parents are there for you!

This is one of their best, I still laugh every time. I love how the one guy keeps inserting literary references "we gon' get our Bergeron" (Harrison Bergeron) and "you in the combat seat, Jonathan Livingston Seagull"

Did anyone ever hear about the Kabyle? I was talking with an Algerian girl last night; she mentioned these people still maintain their original way of living: natural, organic, and low-tech.!
I am doing my homework atm, I think old places still have many "secrets" because they are still well connected to the past, yet the more we live in modern societies, the more we are being kept away from the past. Everything is artificial, robotic and distant these days, yet they called it advancement, madness.
reply
wait... You are trying to tell me that milk is not coming straight from the supermarket? You are trying to tell me that shitGPT is not wisdom?
You are such conspiratorial today Natalia.
reply
She also mentioned about the soul and the invisible, even some of the things I think are only movie scenes, yet she has friends who have been through.
I also asked her why sometimes, when I am upset or unhappy with some accumulated negative thoughts in my mind, then the related person would approach me later that day - did this happen to you too?
And conspiracy theory of today - no, I don't believe we are descended from monkeys.

ᕦ(ò_óˇ) Day 13 of exercising everyday before the saloon opens
Set the alarm to 9AM instead of 7:30AM now. That obviously worked way better. But I still need to go to bed earlier. Went to bed at 2AM yesterday. 8 hours of sleep would be nice.
Went to the calisthenics park and ... oh no, I forgot to take a picture again! Just noticed, lol
Regular workout with some jumping frog squats. This means 10 inclined push-ups, 10 squats, 9-12 frog squats, 10 inverted rows. Tried to also do 10 knee raises but my core did already hurt after the first one. Did this routine 3 times.
I also learned today that these push-ups that are not 100% vertical are called inclined push-ups. I think I mentioned this at the beginning that I am not fully vertical proper push-ups but I may did not mention this anymore. Please forgive me, lol
Doing 6 of these jumping frog squats was already quite challenging. Tried to do 9-12 (since I can do 3 in one direction) before I move on to the next exercise.
The inclined push-ups feel way better now. I will probably go more vertical next time.
At the end, I did some step-ups and 45s supermans with 15s breaks for 3 minutes. While doing it, I noticed that if you shift your perspective, you can actually imagine yourself flying like superman. You just have to imagine that what you're looking at is not the ground in front of your face but actually very far away, lol
So my MOTD is: Shift your perspective!
reply
Well done!
Incline press are good but don’t be afraid to try some on your knees (box press / 3/4 press etc) as it works the chest through a similar range-of-motion to a standard (horizontal to the ground) press up. Eventually you will get there…. And squeeze those glutes!
For every incline press up there is a decline press up around the corner on your fitness journey!
reply
These posts are inspiring, @ekzyis. I have been putting off any exercise other than normal chores and walking the dog for a while. Age is catching up to me. For the past week or so I have been using a treadmill, gradually building incline and speed. I need to keep moving to hopefully reverse some of this old guy joint stiffness.
reply
Age is just a number….. and sometimes it is a very large one!
A few squats if you can would be good. Maybe at a halfway point on the dog walk? Do them over a bench or log etc if you are worried about going too far down (it’s a sit-down, stand up, sit-down repeated). Just don’t actually sit lol.
reply
I uses to do squats with free weights back in the day. Loved the feeling when the workout was done. Now, just a regular squat is a challenge
reply
Yeah - I struggle with the changes that come with age, especially since mind thinks I am still 18 and stupid.
Body weight squats this week and we can do Olympic lifts next week…. maybe.

It's so interesting that things and knowledge used to be spread by conquests, quite cool in a sense; you could get a rough understanding of what happened somewhere simply by looking at the architect of old buildings, the mix of food, how foreign words got to blend in with the local languages, even the way of living, etc.
The same logic works for now, you look around and can understand how many places are conquered by the fiat standard 😳
reply
Also look at the evolution of bitcoin memes
reply
which one?
reply
not one in particular, but I remember the ones in 2013-2014 were quite simple and the message wasn't so sharp like today. Nowadays the memes are quite complex with deep messages.
For example such a meme would not have such powerful meaning in 2013, like today.

The world is where it is and societies are the product of everything that’s been before - good or ill - somethings are taken and others are imposed.
People too - I use foreign words and phrases in my day-to-day. ‘Ulu’ is a good one - means upriver or the unknown in Indo-Malay.
reply
Yes, ofc people too. I enjoy people-watching, and I found the beauty of genetic mix is eye-pleasing, especially in Turkey, so diverse. Then I slowly tracked down to why.? oh, because the Turks originally came from Asia and had built many empires across different lands and cultures, etc.
Then, I also wondered about many other things that I saw; I found it quite fascinating, like getting different hints from the past.!!

‘Ulu’ means big in turkish:) 🤓
