I worked two years for a foundation. We received an annual subsidy of about 2.4 million USD from the government and we spent it to 80 foundations on a monthly basis and we repaired around 30 homes and helped about 50 small initiatives per year.
It took a staff of 8 people to run this process. But the costs were around 500.000 usd to run it.
I automated the whole reporting process with python. We had quarterly reports we send to our supervisory board.
The financials were done in a project management and accounting software.
But the whole process was a paper process, with a lot of files. Paper files. And at the end we had the audited financial statements, during the first quarter of the next year.
I now want to experiment with the thought of scaling this to global. What if you had 10 billion sats (about 2.4 million USD) together in a Global Bitcoin Foundation pulled together?
How could you help the world, small vulnerable, often forgotten groups of citizens with small projects?
How could you do this decentralized? Can you help me with your thoughts??
I have seen there is a bitcoin foundation doing something like this already. I tried to contact them in the past to collaborate but they never answered.
I know now how to design a paper process from end to end and how to automate this in a workflow management system like monday.com.
With the knowledge I would have I would:

Create an online form where organizations could submit their requests for a grant. All relevant details and photos and proof they have on what they want to achieve. Organizations represent the vulnerable groups or the vulnerable group could send their requests themselves. They need internet (data) and mobile to access the portal.

Once in their request would be routed to a team of specialists that review the request. The specialists check the rules. Prioritize the requests and give an advice to say no or yes to the request. All this conversation can be done in the online tool like Monday.

These advices and the request goes to a board of directors of the fund. These could be 5-7 people per region that approve. They cluld do this remotely on their mobiles.

Once aporoved a kind of contract is made with the requestor. The contract says you are going to deliver what you promised in your submitted request. You promised to organize a day of teaching boys how to play soccer in Tanzania, or El Salvador.? Every month for 100.000 sats? You better deliver according to your plan. Somebody needs to “sign” this contract. It goes too far maybe, but how can we use lightning to sign a contract? Maybe create this contract with smart contracts on rsk platform? But I want to keep it simple.

Now it is delivery. We need to get proof of delivery every month. We need to see boys training in Tanzania and El Salvador? How can we do this? A photo with a local newspaper? So we can verify the day? Don’t trust verify.

They would get tge sats for those months. Say a project of 5 months 20.000 sats released each month. They need to get the sats upfront. And at tge end they need to show proof the activity took place. Was the house repaired? The roof fixed? The house of the 80 year old lady in rural Barbados. They need to upload photos taken with their mobile phones in the system Monday.com.

Then a report. You could ask them a closing report and an intermediary report. Photos. Sone text. Uploaded in the system.

Closing. The reviewers of the foundation would close the project and the comunity cluld vote and tell the foundation if the outcomes of the social project were accomplished. Here the beneficiaries would add a smiley on the feedback form they got. They need a mobile phone to send feedback and internet.
This foundation could be centralized but it could also be decentralized!!
It could be a platform like Monday.com which exists and has workflow functionality. But in tge future it could also become a workflow system built on opensource Django a python framework.
I’m also learning django, and I know it is doablw. But building a workflow system with automations on django is not easy. But if there are django developpers who gave an open source workflow automation system than we are close. But I have seen Monday.com work and know this can be built easily in a day or two.
This foundation could be a decentralized protocol like nostr!! Everybody can participate. Nobody can claim it is theirs! Even I couldn’t, shouldn’t. It could work on relays!!! You should be able to run your node with a foundation on it!!!
Sats payment and sat funding
Having only one government as your main sponsor as I started this post with makes you vulnerable. The government can decide to cut your funding in half in just a year.
I’m thinking of the global bitcoin community bringing those 10 billion sats together.

Reporting
At each moment in time you would see dashboards. How much sats spent, which location, which country, which group? How many on repairing houses, roofs, for disabled people? How many for children, for women, for youth? Colourful graphs with smiling people. Automatic dashboards you could click and deep dive and filter on.
Supplies
All the suppliers on these developing countries, Barbados, Tanzania and El Salvador should accept sats. For their services. If there is a pump to be repaired we pay you in sats. If there is material to be bought to buy paint: we pay you in sats. If there is foood to be bought during the soccer training we pay you in sats.
Those are the rules!!!
You have a wallet and we pay you in sats.
With this we spread sats around the world.
Open source. I want this to he open source. All lessons learned, all plans of approach, all soccer training schedules: open source!! If you build code and we pay that: open source.
The only issue I have above is that Monday.com is a great system but it is not open source.
That is my dream if a Global Bitcoin Decentralized Foundation.
When I was a kid, I promised my mom I would give her a foundation. That helps the world. I know what poverty is.
Maybe this is a way to fulfill my promise.
