Thanks for the feedback on survivor pool submission deadlines. Just one more piece of business to cover before I send out the rules and instructions tomorrow. Tiebreakers.
There are a couple scenarios where tiebreakers may occur. a)The most obvious being the last players standing all get eliminated the same week and have no re-buys left or have passed the re-buy deadline. b) There is a game cancelled or postponed (due to weather or health emergency-Hamlin situation) that will not be made up prior to the next week set of games.
Open to suggestions on how to handle a and b. My suggestions as follows: a) either we split the pot amongst the last participants to be eliminated or we go to a tiebreaker the following week and so on until only one player is standing. I prefer to go to tiebreaker but up to you guys. b) If a game is cancelled or postponed that won't be made up before the following week's game my suggestion would be the player(s) affected carry forward to the next week but must pick 2 winners that week. If carrying them forward would cause them to win the pool then they must pick 1 winner the following week to be deemed the winner and if they lose we revert to the tiebreaker rules.
Let me know your thoughts and I will get this all finalized and posted sometime tomorrow.
Cheers, GR
It seems like b) should be dealt with in whatever way ties are dealt with. Is surviving winning or is it not losing? Also, if they finish the game at a later date, the eventual outcome can be applied retroactively.
I like the idea of some sort of tiebreaker for a), but getting to carry on another week doesn't seem fair. Other people might have also only gotten one pick wrong, but it happened to occur earlier. What about using point differential as the decider?
reply
I like the point differential idea but quite honestly I would prefer to just keep track of who won and who didn't and ensure they aren't reusing picks rather than points as well. Just makes it a bit easier for me.
I like the idea of carrying on until there is a winner if we end in a tie. There is a re-buy up until week 9 so hopefully that gives some folks who were out early a fair opportunity.
I don't expect everything to run smoothly. I just hope it works out to be fair and then after it ends we can figure out how to make it better next time.
reply
I didn't mean that you should be keeping track of point differentials all season. I was thinking of just checking the scores from the week when the last survivors were eliminated.
reply
Oh gotcha. I like that. Let's see what @siggy47 thinks.
Tiebreaker goes to following week or tiebreaker is point differential the week the remaining participants get eliminated?
reply
That works. Sure.

I like your suggestion. FYI, in my pool, players are free to make deals with each other towards the end of the season to split the pot. But, the pool is much bigger and the stakes are higher. Your idea makes sense for a pool this size.
reply
That's a cool idea. I don't think we put it in the rules but if the final two players wanted to make a deal on their own that's up to them.
reply
Yeah. That would work fine. Some years 4 or 5 players split the pool, which of course would be ridiculous for us.
reply
Only thing I am stuck on that hasn't been sorted yet is say I lose week 1 with the Chiefs in a big upset. When I re-buy can I use the Chiefs again or are they eliminated for me regardless of win or lose?
reply
No precedent from my pool. I say you can't use Chiefs again.
reply
Agree. That's the way I was leaning too. It's one thing if it happened week one but what if it happens week 8 and I use my last chance to re-buy, pick the chiefs again in week 9, all other players get eliminated that week and I win. I don't think that will fly. I think we are already walking on eggshells with the re-buy idea. Not that I want to get rid of it, because I think it sweetens the pot and gives early exits a chance to stay in engaged but a re-buy at week 8 that wins in week 9 against a player that never had to re-buy and can no longer do so will not be the optimal outcome.
reply
Not sure a rebuy should be a clean slate of teams to repick. If you've picked them youve picked them. Can't reuse with a buy in I think.
Never know. We may all go out week one. Thank god for the re-buy. Haha
reply
It wouldn't be the first time for me.

Would also like to address what happens to sats zapped to posts by the survivor pool account.
My opinion is zapps, and rewards from that accounts activity Should go to @grayruby as a "commissioner's tax" doing all the admin, you should get a little something something.
reply
Let's see what the zaps amount to. I won't need the tax because I am going to win. Haha. Let's see how much the zaps beyond the prize pool amount to and how much time it took to administer the pool. Siggy and I are trying to get some Satsraising campaigns together to run on SN so likely I will just donate them to one of those or the daily SN rewards donations.
