You can drag wallets around

Yes, dragging only changes priority.

I just noticed this wasn’t updated yet:

On mobile, you need to click on a wallet and then select where you want the wallet to be.

Mobile now also uses dragging.

new trial tagline: "24/7 bitcoin meetup on a website"

the goal is something that makes immediate sense to outsiders even if it's insufficient for us insiders.

reply

yeah

reply

I like it a lot! It has a nice simple sound to it, like something I actually want to go check out.

reply
24/7 bitcoin meetup on a website

bland...

How about "Enlightning communities with value" or "Enlightning people with value"

no, Enlightening is not misspelt... it clearly refers to LN, but for normies it may read misspell. It just adds some human touch. Keep it generic, community is definitely a value in SN. Used value at the end instead of bitcoin because that's what's given around here by users. And is given with words (knowledge) first, and with sats (that's just a detail).

If not defined anywhere yet, I highly suggest you guys take some time with the team to run a strategy workshop for defining Vision, Mission, ad future objectives for SN.

reply
reply

this pitch is great for LPs, similar discourse could work to engage with more territory funders. Not ideal to onboard the next wave of new stackers.

The tagline should be attractive for the target audience. It could be tricky because every territory operate differently. I found "En-lightning people with value" is a common ground that apply to all territories. Audience does not need to know abut bitcoin, just need to be willing to learn about a new platform.

Another one I read around that could work really well is "fixing communities with economics". A copywriter could help find better wording

reply

How about "The Most Based Community on the Interwebz"

I definitely like putting the word community in the tagline!

reply
102 sats \ 7 replies \ @k00b 4 Nov

imo community means so many things that it's practically meaningless.

reply

i'd argue that it only has one usual meaning, which is a group of people who share something in common

not sure if it has other meanings besides that

reply
0 sats \ 4 replies \ @k00b 4 Nov

fair, but it's used to describe too many things. it doesn't really tell me anything except that there are based people peopling on the internet. it's helped by "most" but that's super unverifiable.

free your mind of ever having heard of SN. what would you need to hear - from someone you do not trust at all - to best understand what SN is and as fast as possible.

How about "The never ending bitcoin meetup" or "On demand bitcoin meetup"?

reply
112 sats \ 10 replies \ @k00b 4 Nov

"1000 songs in your pocket" vs "the never ending music player" vs "on demand music"

When we think of copy, we tend to think fantastical is better because of how we feel when we use fantastical words, but literal/concrete (and, yes, ideally profound) makes easier sense and an easier sell.

I'll give you that the tagline is literal in a boring way, but if we want to make it more interesting we:

  1. don't want to reduce the concreteness
  2. we want to use words that we would in normal conversation

We want to make the truth interesting without having to use words that we'd categorize as interesting by themselves.

reply

"1000 autists in your pocket"

reply

Perfection!

reply

I like "1000 songs in your pocket" because it's short, intriguing, and tangible.

I was trying to think of how to word a pitch that made SN sound like an all-night diner or all-you-can-eat buffet but I didn't come up with anything.

I don't like the "on a website" part because I don't think people prefer that (or want to prefer that) to IRL, so you're planting a dig in your own pitch. Just "24/7 bitcoin meetup" is better.

It sounds kinda simple and charming to me. It says what it is.

But if you think website makes it too long, what about

The 24/7 Bitcoin meetup with zaps

reply

If the goal is for it to be meaningful to non-bitcoiners, then you can't talk about zaps.

I think I'd even like "A 24/7 virtual Bitcoin meetup" more. It's really the "on a website" that feels like a turnoff.

Dear Siggy the idiot old guy,

interesting...

line breaks don't break quote mode, but paragraph breaks do.

reply
0 sats \ 2 replies \ @sox 4 Nov

You got the bug! The markdown transformer doesn’t know how to handle line breaks. So a line break would create a full paragraph node instead of… a line break

But I’ll teach it.

reply

Would that break formatting of older posts?

reply

The goal is to avoid precisely that! I want to achieve 1:1 formatting before migrating anything

Happiness Journal 4/11/25

Upon picking my boy up from school, he eagerly rummaged through his bag to show me his Chinese magazine. He had learnt that clownfish change their gender to adapt to changing circumstances and wanted to let me know.

I also had something to tell him. The rhinoceros hornbill, said to have been extinct in Singapore, was recently spotted on our city-state. Maybe it had come over from Malaysia. Swapping one interesting fact for another.

I guess it’s nice to live through life having some people occupy prime territory in my mind.

Practicing What You Preach: Samourai Could Demix Transactions #1273202

reply

Didn’t they tell users they did this?

reply
70 sats \ 1 reply \ @OT 4 Nov

I think it was well known that Samurai mobile wallet was exposing your XPUB. Sparrow had it blinded so I'm not sure why they couldn't do it too

reply

I forgot the reason why they did it but if you ran your own node I think you avoided this privacy leak

reply

I’m not a specialist, but I think some users have to provide the xpub. Is that right, @DarthCoin?

The prosecution herein refers to a main point of criticism of Samourai Wallet's design by competitors and privacy advocates, in which users who did not run their own node provided their extended public key (XPub) to Samourai Wallet's coordinator, allowing the developers to cross-reference transactions.

But the memorandum incorrectly assumes that there was "no technical or operational necessity to do so." As Hill clarifies, "the need to collect this 'XPUB' data was driven the functional necessity of calculating balances" while operating a light wallet, highlighting that only around 20% of users were affected by this design decision.
