This morning I tried to catch up on some podcasts on YouTube. I was denied on my smart TV app without signing in. Rather than hunt around for a workaround, I figure this is what I need to get YouTube out of my life completely. I dont think peertube is a smart TV option anyway, right? I'm poking around the rumble app now. Advice on finding the current podcasts? I'm sure the classic old bitcoin stuff is being mirrored somewhere?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Do you prefer to watch or listen? If listen, it's pretty easy to assemble ye olde list of podcasters and plug them in to a podcasting app.

Yes, I use fountain for listening in my car. I get up really early, when it's still dark and it's just me and the dogs, and I enjoy watching on the big screen.

Do you find that you are watching/listening less these days? I used to listen to quite few podcasts, but these days I'm finding it hard to find interesting stuff.

Definitely. Mostly I watch weird YouTube videos in the morning that are unrelated to bitcoin.

Its strange to me: do you think the content has become less interesting or have you advanced in your bitcoin journey enough that the stuff covered in podcasts is not as interesting?
I used to really learn a lot from podcasts, and I tell myself the reason I don't listen to very much any more is that they just have the same people as guests that they were having two or three years ago.

I don't think that's it. All I have to do is listen to a Stephan Livera technical episode to prove my ignorance if I have any delusions.
I think it's more this:
they just have the same people as guests that they were having two or three years ago.

For occasionally youtube usage, just go to yewtu.be. It's Youtube without the tracking and ads, you can just post a youtube link in yewtu.be and it'll take you right to it.
I have youtube blocked on my main device, to avoid wasting time, so I use yewtu.be.
It's unreliable enough (youtube is trying to shut it down) that it's a bit of a hassle to get videos this way. This is fine by me - I don't want to be watching videos a lot, anyway.

You might fair better with a pi and a browser instead of a smart tv for net stuff. Smart platforms lock things down in annoying ways.
reply
Very true. I just like the big screen for my aging eyes. I could always cast, I guess.
reply
Hook the pi to the tv via an extra hdmi port?
reply
Good idea. I do have a few pi's laying around doing nothing.

If you decide to part with one some day, let me know.

Will do, although I have a sentimental attachment to the little guys.

Think of it more like adoption then if you have to "re-home".

I have no advice I’m still a YouTube junkie. But been thinking of switching to rumble. I heard they may enable zaps

Really? I didn't know that. Since I posted I realized I can find most of the big podcasts right on rumble. I'm sure I'll miss the volume of weird stuff I could find on YouTube, but I'll keep exploring.

Yeah tether owns a large stake as they continue for world domination using bitcoin

Thanks! I just clicked on it to get a sense. I have to figure it out now.
I guess casting once I set it up is the way to go?

If it can't be installed on tv, yes. Or connect a pc/android device to the tv
reply
yeah the best way is to have a small box PC behind the TV and connect that one to any internet source. You manage it much better than any "smartTV" app crap.
I do not like any TV with internet (it's a trap), I prefer offline TVs.

I just confirmed that grayjay "isn't available on this device" 😀

There is a lot of educative platforms like Odysee.

Good job @siggy47. I started switching to Rumble awhile ago, but their content discovery is so much worse that I find myself back at YouTube pretty often.
reply
I'm watching a Bitcoin Audible episode on rumble now. Most of the stuff I wind up watching does available, but you're right about the content discovery. Everything also just looks cheesier.

I have always used YouTube since I began my journey in Bitcoin. I enjoy all the material I have been able to absorb from there, including the @Lunáticoin podcasts and all the content from the @DarthCoin guides and the Bitcoin world that is found in all the videos.

Youtube is still the GOAT as far as content availability except for the ads flooding every 5 mins
reply
They are annoying, especially when the topic interests you a lot.
