What do you think stackers, should players just play under the contracts they signed even if they outplay them or are in lame duck years and risking millions if they get injured prior to their next deal?
Personally, I would like to see contracts be much more performance based. Players could lock in big salary increases or even opt outs with superior play. I don't like guys holding out when they agreed to play under certain terms but teams also breach contracts all the time by cutting guys, so it cuts both ways.
Sats for all, GR
Generally I would agree that if they signed a contract, they should keep their word and play under it. However, contracts can be re-negotiated all the time. I don't understand this whole model of it not being a free market where guys can go wherever they want, whenever they want. The owners are in control. So I don't feel bad for the Bengals at all since they aren't offering enough money to keep this guy happy. He's really good and could easily get paid more elsewhere. He wants to stay, so keep him happy, or be OK losing him.

The penalty for not playing or reporting is part of the contract, so he’s really not violating the terms. He’s opting for that provision.

True! I think the prevailing sentiment still applies though

Do you think they will trade him?
reply
Depends how stubborn the owner will be. I think he now has 2 edge rushers that are not participating due to contract disputes.
I thought in the past, Burrow was leaning hard on management to keep Hendrickson happy. I'd think they'd give in to help keep Burrow happy, too.

I have never seen a team that seems to care so little about defense. Haha

You would think they could essentially bake in the extension conditions to current contracts.
Maybe doing so complicates the salary cap calculations too much though.
reply
I think that’s right. Both sides don’t want to be wrong significantly on the cap calculations.

PAY THE MAN!

Trade him to the Bills!

Bengals are a cheap organisation, I swear they have someone hold out each and every year.
It'll get sorted before the season starts. Usually does.
