Doug Casey describes speculation as trying to capitalize on government caused distortions. You have to accurately assess the distortion but also get out before they stop causing it.

For a true degen, get out means cover, then switch sides.
The real way to lose capital is believed to have it idle, not in a position (though arguably when capital is on a bitcoin standard, managing risk becomes much more important)

That statement implies that you need to be on one side or the other (and sometimes both) of every single market. Otherwise, you might get out and move on to a more promising market.

You're right, I was mostly joking, but (perhaps unfortunately) also observing: much of the degen trading I witness is higher-than-needed volume.
