that means you ain’t stackin hard enough 🙀
I don’t really have a fully fleshed out plan. I just know that stacking sats is the first step to making everything easier. I’ll figure it out as I go along but having a fat stack definitely helps.
Stay humble and stack sats! I think that the American Dream is actually achievable if our money isn’t inflated to shit (preaching to the choir). I want to get back to an era where people are able to work minimum wage and still afford a house. This is possible on a bitcoin standard imo.
On a bitcoin standard, people are a little more incentivized to provide value to each other rather than stealing it from one another. Not only does this all make us wealthier, this creates a much better culture as well. To a fellow young person, you’re already wealthy beyond the majority of everyone else, simply because you stack sats. I think it’s really that simple. I get caught up in the noise a lot with issues around mining centralizing, ordinals and now runes, but bitcoin prevails.
As a younger person, I am unsure as to when or if I’ll be able to start a family or purchase a house. I think that there are many factors such as exuberant taxes and inflation that affect the decisions we make in our everyday lives. With the rise of this cybereconomy, a lot of these factors that hinder my ability to plan for the future affect me less and less. By cybereconomy, i mean bitcoin.
I think that the less power other people have over me, the better. I have a plan for my future and I don’t want somebody else to be able to snap their fingers, change a law here and there, and stop me from moving forward with that plan.
I hope that this makes sense.
The Sovereign Individual. Still haven’t finished the book, but even reading through the first 100 pages the book details how technology will free us from our oppressors.
“Genius will be unleashed, freed from both the oppression of government and the drags of racial and ethnic prejudice. In the Information Society, no one who is truly able will be detained by the ill-formed opinions of others. It will not matter what most of the people on earth might think of your race, your looks, your age, your sexual proclivities, or the way you wear your hair. In the cybereconomy, they will never see you. The ugly, the fat, the old, the disabled will vie with the young and beautiful on equal terms in utterly color-blind anonymity on the new frontiers of cyberspace.”
What are some examples of this shift you’re talking about? I am mostly surrounded by doomers who are only prepping for the internet to go out. I don’t experience the same vibe shift- I only get hope from other bitcoiners.
Is this not the case for a citadel? Bitcoiners protecting bitcoiners? Kidnapping becomes a social norm, plus it’s easier than trying to manage a 9-5 in a Mandibles-esque world. The only people you might be able to trust are other bitcoiners with significant wealth.
Let’s assume that we fail to create new social norms. “This is happening.” The incentives to commit crime are too powerful. What do we do? Maybe the citadel is the only answer that might bring us a decent quality of life in this dystopian hellscape that you describe. I hope that we as bitcoiners can infect the culture around the world, turning bitcoiners into leaders or vice versa. Just my 2 sats.
I love the title of this post. An inch deep and a mile wide. Any time I see a post that explains a thought in my head better than I could’ve ever explained it, I tell my wife and we sit there and ponder. I love SN because this is the only space where I can actually expand my mind. Ive had this idea in my head for a long time, you’ve just formulated it into words for me. Thank you.
This might not be your style, but just telling the dude straight up that this is mainly a bitcoin space. No followup, no bullshit, no belittling, just a couple words straight to his ego. I know you advertise as a “crypto” meetup but it doesn’t hurt to throw something like that out there to mark your territory. See what happens. I too am opposed to conflict, but friction is a part of life. Sometimes by creating awkwardness you become the dominant figure once again by simply stating a fact. Fuck em. Who cares what his intentions are. Your space, your rules.
Just an idea. Might help you formulate your own tactics.
I don’t have advice for you but I’ll share my journey so far in hopes that you may get something out of it.
For context, I’m quite privileged, not really having to worry about finances, grew up in a pretty normal functional family.
I had an existential crisis at the age of 18. I am currently 22 btw. I ran out of money, and because my dad is a hardcore conspiracy theorist, I knew the sky was falling from an early age- I needed to do something about my money situation. His obsession with central banking, the cabal, etc etc… naturally led me to the conclusion that I needed money, fast and I needed it now. (obviously he scared me straight lol)
My best friend is a successful music producer and he got me into producing around 2021. I made music for about a year, and I never made a penny. I had a girlfriend that I sadly neglected hard through this time, regretfully. We are still together to this day 💝. I cut ties with my music producer friend and our friend group due to different opinions regarding covid, and we just didn’t see eye to eye anymore. Maybe I grew up or something idk. Anyways the money issue thing was still stuck in my frontal lobe so I started looking into crypto- as any genZ does. This led me towards shitcoining for a couple months and I finally landed in bitcoin land. I bought my first bitcoin in early 2023.
Fast forward to today, I am currently working with my dad- we run a small health business that supports our entire family and some. I won’t disclose what we do as some may call me a fraud for working in “pseudo-science” but our business speaks for itself. We don’t advertise, all our clients are word of mouth. Proof of Work baby. I am in a fantastic relationship with a girl who I really don’t deserve but I see a future with her 100%. I got very lucky. She’s my world.
I have a business that can support me, my girl, and my bitcoin addiction. That’s my simple life. Hard work, but a simple life. I hope that you may find your “work”.
I think that bitcoin has taught me that I don’t actually want to retire. I want to provide for the people I care about. Don’t take advice. Make mistakes, and see what happens.
“If you assume that there is no hope, you guarantee that there will be no hope. If you assume that there is an instinct for freedom, that there are opportunities to change things, then there is a possibility that you can contribute to making a better world.”
— Noam Chomsky
meh just an idea. not sure a bitcoin kahoot would excite anyone now that I think about it lol
i only suggest sending some coin out because that’s my personal favourite way to orange pill but is also what aantonop suggests.
if you’re willing to part with a couple satoshis, make it a contest. Whoever can correctly guess your “bitcoin trivia” questions will get -however many sats- everyone likes a little competition. Relatives get excited cause real money is on the table, plus they feel nice getting an answer correct. All they have to do is download an app. Just an idea- I’ve never actually done this.
I recently sent my buddy $50 worth of sats on WoS to try and orange pill him. maybe not the best approach, but I personally think that trying to tackle the self-custody, sovereignty part of the equation is too much for someone that knows nothing about bitcoin. People like money. Give them money. Then, hope that they ask more questions. $50 is not enough to make me miss those sats, but enough to pique interest.

Ah see this is where I should differentiate myself. My entire generation plays the victim. As did I for a time. However, bitcoin has taught me a great deal, pulling me out of that victim mentality and giving me the chance to “educate myself”. I didn’t go to post-secondary. I have and will continue to educate myself in the ways that I see fit. I can afford a great deal and with bitcoin, my purchasing power will only grow.
I appreciate the perspective. I should have worded my comment differently.
From a Gen Z:
We inherited this shitty world man. Can’t blame us for not doing anything when we’ll never actually be able to afford a house. A small minority of us are actually engaging in these activities (such as myself). This slow life strategy is simply because WE CANT AFFORD SHIT. We already live in a snowcrash world. Just because you can’t see it doesn't make it real.
On a more positive note, the handful of us Gen Z who actually own a utxo will be the only ones of my generation to have any significant sum of wealth. Bitcoin might push these trends in the other direction, however this will be a bumpy road nonetheless.
PS
your music also sucks. get off your high horse. music is completely subjective.
Cheesy or not, I feel the same way. I rarely feel joy through material objects. The last thing I bought myself that really made me feel joy was a new mac for myself.
However, buying things for my wife makes me happier than anything
I see what you’re trying to say. I know we will all take advantage of borrowing against our stack. All I’m trying to get across is that a merchant may only accept bitcoin, therefore forcing me to pay with my bitcoin.
My first choice would be to borrow against my stack. If the merchant doesn’t accept any currency other than bitcoin, I either pay in bitcoin or find a different merchant. That’s all.
