I don't agree. But looking forward to sinking my teeth into this thread.
not in the public smelling of own farts to each others.
I appreciate the turn of phrase,
Somewhere, perhaps, it got oversold as a twitter replacement, or otherwise this was my own fault for believing it could be.
I see the power of nostr when is about to have a private network, for your company, for your family, for your own group of underground buddies etc.
Seems to be the only way it can stay decentralized.
Anyway, its exciting to see where it goes and to learn more about these avenues. Would love to see some Darthcoin educational posts about Nostr.
Certainly it is early and interesting, as you said.
As mentioned, I'm posing questions for the philosophically interested. I don't presume my voice counts for that much, but I figure that those with actual clout - investors or developers - reading, it might be worth the effort to step back and reflect on where the protocol is headed with respect to the perceived values and ideologies associated with it. In the name of truth seeking.
I do love Nostr, and I agree with your point about withholding judgement until the rubber hits the road, so to speak. There was, if you can believe it, a more vitriolic version of this post that got heavily pared down to the version you are reading. In truth, I'm in the process of learning to manage my expectations for whats still a wee burgeoning bairn. Hopefully others can relate to this.
One of my favourite aspects of Nostr.
Darth is right, youtube is trash. The ads have gotten much worse too. Implacable.
Rumble is a little better (generally speaking, I don't watch bitcoin content there), and I've noticed some improvements in their mobile app over the last year.
Funny, these memes remind me of some thoughts I'd had about Nostr, particularly the twitter-style clients like Damus and Primal. I feel myself I gravitate away from them and toward SN for a few reasons.
I get the censorship resistance of them not having a black-box algorithm, but I feel its a double edged sword, in that new users are beholden to their connections to plug them to other users. This makes content discovery really difficult. Also - and maybe I haven't figured this one out yet, so please fill me in if that's the case - but what's the incentive for new users to post, besides the goodwill of their followers, and that only if they have any?
In summary, no incentive plus no algo to push new users' content means its only gonna stick with people who are already well connected in those communities. Just my two sats.
in the EU only one sector continues to grow: the state economy and the sprawling welfare state.
Sounds like Canada
It's a really valid point you're making about businesses. I hadn't considered that really. BTC map shows a very scarce number of bitcoin accepting businesses in my area.
Unfortunately, in my neck of the woods, most people still look at it as a risk asset, that doesn't have money properties. Too bad for them.
Show him charts. Show him that his cryptos priced in Bitcoin are all going down over time.
But I actually need to take my own advice. My brother is on the solana train. He thinks its going to pump a 15x and which point he thinks he'll get smart and trade it for Bitcoin. I don't think that will ever happen.
I keep it to myself that I HODL aside from my very close family. I also don't try to convince the wrong people who I know just won't understand. It's happening one way or another, so bear markets give us fiat miners more of a chance to buy in while its cheap...
NODE WISELY ;)
Thanks for the comment and feedback @siggy47. It means a lot.
Touché. There are better memes that could have been used here. It does suggest that degeneracy is a 'step up' from the other concepts.
My point was to show that degens skip all of the salient intellectual work needed to understand Bitcoin. Unfortunately, they get misconstrued as being the same species as bitcoiners, while they do none of the same intellectual work. It was not my intention to propagate these lies.
I will meme more carefully in the future.
I see the humour in your comment.
I think this is a case of 'woman hospitable, man protective.' Probably a resolution lay somewhere in the middle.
Not the case. Dinner out was my first instinct. Made the suggestion to her.
If he's being reasonable, he'll understand someone not feeling comfortable having a work 'friend' over. Let's see where it goes.
