Lately I have forced myself out of my libertarian bubble to see what the "liberal" podcasters are talking about. I am mainly interested in Gaza coverage, but I watched this video this morning:
One of the talking points was Ben Shapiro's warning that Trump's "crypto" schemes and rugpulls would turn both democrats and some Maga supporters against.... wait for it..... crypto.
The conflation of the word bitcoin and crypto is more than simply irritating in this context. Despite our best efforts, the average Joe still doesn't recognize the difference. I expect the "bitcoin is a scam" FUD to be in full force in two years.
I know bitcoin will survive this. I also know that its acceptance by Wall Street will be even deeper by then.
Still, bitcoin was created as a result of bank bailouts and reactions like Occupy Wall Street. The perception that bitcoin is a tool used by the elites to screw the little guy seems inevitable in the coming years. Trump will be portrayed during the mid terms as the rich guy rug pulling his ignorant supporters to grow richer. That argument will be valid. The distinction between bitcoin and shitcoins will be fuzzy.
If Satoshi is still out there, I hope he's pissed.
