I remember about 10 years ago, when Europe was flooded with migrants, this canal was the main topic everywhere... this canal was used by migrants trying to get from France to the United Kingdom. With Calais, they increased police surveillance, and there were cases where migrants illegally jumped into trucks and tried to cross... A lot of them were caught, but I'm pretty sure that many got through.
