Thomas Eddlem compares Trump's first term to his second administration, finding his recent record sharply at odds with previous promises.
“Trump has taken his current presidency to the next level, once again proving that Horton’s Law, i.e., that presidents only keep their bad promises, remains valid. Every president disappoints, but who would have figured Trump would have locked up the title so quickly?”

America has a two-party system of governance today, until the voters decide on something different. To paraphrase the late Samuel T. Francis, we have the “Evil Party” (the party in power) and the “Stupid Party” (the party too stupid to attain to power). And often they get together to do something both stupid and evil which we call “bipartisanship.”
I love it, someone is calling a spade a spade. Horton makes the specific delineation between a liar and a bullshitter and puts Trump squarely in the latter category. Trump just doesn’t care what you think about what he says, which, of course, why he spews so much BS. Saying all of that, I still think we have to wait a bit more to know just what is up with this administration and what they are actually going to do. Do you think he will get us into a war?

I'm hopeful that he won't. I do think, for all of his many many flaws, Trump genuinely does not like war.

So far, that is what he appears to say, however, bombing Yemen and threatening Iran doesn’t have very good optics. Coercion is coercion, and that is not called ”dealmaking”!! It is a totally different ballgame, isn’t it?

He has no problem with threats, unfortunately. Even with Yemen, though, he sought to end the violence pretty quickly.
The episode that I found most telling was in his first term. Iran had just shot down a US drone (or something like that) and all of his advisors were pushing him to retaliate with a missile strike against a base. He asked a question that these psychos never seem interested in: "How many people will die if we strike that base?" He decided not to do the strike because he didn't think it was worth the loss of Iranian lives.

Yes, that is the question for a non-psychopathic leader to ask before going into conflict. Unfortunately, there are a lot of these neo-con psychopaths around the halls of power. They seem to be attracted like flies on excrement. They also don’t care a whit about how many people die, as long as it is not their people. Trump is right in turfing them out when they get too strident.
