I’m new to Stacker News and trying to understand what actually works when starting from scratch. Whether it was posting useful content, asking the right questions, or just being active in comments how did you reach your first 1,000 sats? I’d love to hear your experience and any advice for someone hoping to build up from zero.

I think posting quality content would be the best way to earn sats. Find something you're interested in and make a post about it. Also try to engage with anyone replying.

Does the sats amount increase everytime you post or will it come down again after a day or so my first post was 21 sats fourth one was almost a hundred

reply

Exactly. Its stupid simple really.

I'm starting to get the hang of this it's quite a enjoyable platform

If you came to "earn sats" you could use your time better elsewhere to earn fiat and buy bitcoin or better yet earn bitcoin. However, if you came to learn and share what you know and have learned, you will be rewarded with sats.

It creates a good incentive to share knowledge and opinions @Jerrian. A little nudge to try. If you hang out here long enough you will notice we don't have "the big names" spending a lot of time here. Their typical engagement farming doesn't work out here. But if you engage in honest discussion and people appreciate it you will be rewarded.

SN is more of a value for value place than any other site I've found. Its more thoughtful than Nostr (though I hope Nostr changes). It is way more signal than noise than any other place including X.

Its a great place to ask questions. You can even put up bounties and I recommend you do that. The sats I've received on SN are far less valuable than the knowledge I've gained. That knowledge has helped me avoid stupid mistakes and encouraged me to try things that have increased my control over my bitcoin.

SN is designed to reward people for pro-social behavior. Here are the categories that earn sats:

  • Zapping good posts
  • Zapping good comments
  • Making good posts
  • Making good comments
  • Referring others to Stacker News who do the above four things

As a new stacker, the easiest path is to read posts that interest you, zap them sats, and engage in the discussions in the comments.

If there's a market inefficiency in those categories, it's probably zapping good comments. So, getting into discussions is where I'd start. Ask genuine questions, leave thoughtful feedback, and zap everything that you got value from.

reply

Thanks this was really helpful and I have about 247 sats in my wallet so far I see zapping is 100 sats so if it rises a bit more I will

reply

You can zap any amount. Check your default in settings, because it doesn't have to be 100.

if u have have good information, then u shall get sats if u share the information intelligently; no bullsh!t A.I. summaries;

if u have more sats than good information, then u have to spend sats in order to make good information appear and then use it to better ur life;

one may ask, "what am i supposed to do if i have no sats and no information?" - u read and u work... no shortcuts;

reply

This is a place to learn and not to earn, if you have more to teach and have quality content to present then you can "earn".

I basically just learn lol.

Asking insightful questions that spark discussion can also attract attention and tips. Since Stacker rewards active participation, being genuine and helpful over time tends to grow your sats organically. Between links and discussion which makes more sats

I wrote down some angry-ish remarks about a) stupid people, b) saying stupid things, c) about money, monetary economics, bitcoin. https://a.stacker.news/items/733580/r/denlillaapan

...and for some unfathomable reason people zapped my guts

reply

I think writing topics of interest to the community is what will get you there, but it's best to just interact with the community and the sats will come by themselves, focus on having fun and on the content.

If you came to SN to "earn sats"... forget it.
