Bitcoin businesses are zapping Orange Pill App users. I can attest to its effectiveness. I sat per user. Someone just claimed to have zapped 43k sats. That seems high, but who knows? It seems like good, inexpensive marketing.

They call it mass zapping.

Maybe I'll run campaigns for my individual territories.

Good idea. Let me know how it goes.

reply

Will do.

I just downloaded the Orange Pill App and it's asking me to choose a paid membership. Does it have paid tiers only? I'm more than willing to pay for something I find valuable, but I kinda want to try it out first.

reply

Yes. It's a paid app. Some people like it. Some hate it. It's probably best to do some research before committing to it.

reply

I paid a $3.99 monthly to try it out.

I immediately found an event near me: a Bitcoin summit at UCLA Anderson in May. Cool! It's good to know about stuff like that.

The other thing that strikes me is that the quality of peoples' photos is quite high. Are people using it as a dating app? lol

Anyway, we'll see if I keep paying for it, but finding out about the Anderson summit was worth more than $3.99 to me already.

reply

I'm happy to hear that. I have made just about all my in real life stacker contacts through the app. I'm not saying it is fantastic, but it is sometimes useful and seems to be getting better.

Its a typical walled garden except the garden is for bitcoiners which makes it ok apparently

reply

are you referring to the paywall?

reply

Initially, I believe it was meant for Bitcoin dating. Only dudes on it, so they quickly shifted it to a meet-up type thing

reply

I saw a couple of chicks, maybe 1 in 5 were. But I live in LA so our of the larger markets I guess

reply

thanks for downloading the app! we don't do free trials because we don't want the app to be flooded with scammers, spammers, bots and shitcoiners. the monthly membership is $3 and can be cancelled anytime, when you sign up we send you 1,000 to your OPA wallet, so really is $2

if you'd like to know what other users do within the app feel free to check our app store reviews, we think you'll be impressed

reply

I paid for the first month to check it out, see my comments here: #962204

reply

excellent, you can always get a lifetime membership so you don't have to worry about renewal memberships

Hey @siggy47 can you check if PlebLab has a meetup page on there? Or if it shows are events in Austin?

reply

Yes it is

reply
36 sats \ 3 replies \ @Car 27 Apr

Oh nice!

reply

What's PlebLab cos some of us really don't know.

reply

yeah i'm curious too, can anyone explain it? sharing is beautiful.

How will you run them in your territory? Dont you kind of do that in books and articles already?

reply

I was going to market my territory by including a link in the zap message. I decided to first try a general Stacker News message with link.

reply

Interesting. Just be careful of all the alt accounts some people have.

reply

They would pay for lots of accounts? Maybe businesses would?

reply

I was talking more about SN than other places.

@orangepillapp why can’t I pay with lightning? How private are these fiat payments?

Edit: found this answer in the FAQ:

No monthly option for bitcoin?

reply

There should be weekly subscription options not just monthly and now we don't even have monthly for btc subscription, how does that even look?

reply

unfortunately there is no way to do recurring payments in bitcoin, so we would have to send you an email every month, which is a terrible UX

hopefully bolt12 takes off

reply
0 sats \ 5 replies \ @ek 27 Apr

I think not being able to pay with bitcoin for 1 month at all is worse UX.

You also don't have to send a mail every month, you can just give them a lightning invoice when they open the app and their subscription expired, no?

That's how Stacker News handles recurring payments for territories.

hopefully bolt12 takes off

How is bolt12 going to fix this problem? It's for receiving, not sending.

reply
hopefully bolt12 takes off

BOLT12 enables recurring payments on the Lightning Network by allowing reusable offers and automatic invoice generation

The sender still has to pay the invoice manually, no?

Afaict, your UX problem isn't the receiving side, it's on the side of the sender.

You're right that with BOLT12, the sender normally needs to manually approve each payment. However, custodial wallets could easily automate this on behalf of the user. Since the wallet controls the keys, it could fetch the invoice from the reusable offer and automatically pay it on a schedule — fully automating recurring payments.

If you're assuming a custodial wallet that you control, you can just not use lightning at all.

fiat payments are managed by apple and google and, thankfully, they don't share any information with us

of course we'd prefer memberships to be bought in bitcoin, but most bitcoiners don't want to spend btc 🤷‍♂️

@siggy47 is the orange pill app available for use in all countries of the world?

reply

I don't know. @orangepillapp would, though.

reply

Yes. Especially on Android since you can just download the APK from our website

reply

That's good to know cos most apps are not made available to users in majorly the tier 3 countries and that's quite a turnoff cos tier 3 countries should be put into consideration when developing an application or building a Web page.

reply

We also have a webapp which is available everywhere

I get these notifications too. The funny thing is that the Orange Pill App's LN wallet is custodial. That means all they need to do is simply send a msg to every members inbox and minus 1 sat from the senders balance while their actual LN node didn't move a sat.

Geo zapping on SN or on nostr would be interesting as it would be sending sats over the LN network.

reply

I would like to hear @orangepillapp 's take on this.

reply

yes, our wallet is custodial which is the the only way to have features like geo zapping, users can withdraw at any time to their LN wallets

reply

which is the the only way to have features like geo zapping

It's not. I can create a script that zaps everyone on nostr by fetching an invoice from their lightning address.

edit: But I guess you would run into UX or performance issues. But it's technically possible.

reply
0 sats \ 0 replies \ @OT 27 Apr

You should do this @ek

reply
It's not. I can create a script that zaps everyone on nostr by fetching an invoice from their lightning address.

in order to fetch an invoice from a Lightning Address, the recipient needs to be using a custodial wallet (or running an always-online node setup, which is rare). So while it's technically possible, you'd mostly be zapping custodial wallets.

reply

@orangepillapp , what's the orange pill app used for? You're not been a good marketing rep by not explaining to us the use of your app. And we mustn't try it out first before we know the essence of the app. You should be doing the introduction since you're available here in our midst

reply

the purpose of orange pill app is to meet local bitcoiners and create local bitcoin communities and parallel economies

you can see what other bitcoiners think and use the app for here: https://www.orangepillapp.com/reviews

reply

Please get back to us on this, once it's done

reply

You can do it in nostr too.

Zapping with message.

reply

Yes me too!

reply

I just sent a general stacker news referral link. Soon I'll know if it was worth it.

reply

how do we zap a post?

reply

nvm... found it

reply

I just checked it out. Zapping everyone with the app 1 sat = 43,436 sats.

Everyone in US = 14,969 sats

reply

you can zap cities, US states, countries or the entire world! just type the destination and click send it.. is that easy

reply

@ek, how can one create a nostr account?
