Even in the city where there are a lot of places it was still pretty expensive. Maybe not $120 but you definitely pay 60-80.
The service costs + rents are much higher from here I guess. The screens are imported from China for $1 to $10 based on type.
Mine is IPS LCD which is not high end, it costs less than a dollar when you bulk buy from china. Till it reaches the retailer here, I assume $1 in additional costs and $ 1 profit to intermediaries. And I paid around $7 which is still more than the double amount at which the retailer buys it.
The real reason of being it so cheap here and having so many mobile repair shops lies in the culture as well. We keep on getting things repaired until they are completely useless.
The shop where I got the repair employs 7 boys including him and while I was getting my phone repaired there were at least 10 more people waiting for theirs.
Having more population is definitely a boon.

Yes, I think India is the most passive country to the throw away culture. I remember how my great grandmother used to make bowls with paper and mud. I even saw her using old plastic brushes needle thread into petticoats.
We (my generation) also don't like throwing things.
