I think it's a personal choice, but me for it's a hard pass. Just more layers of things to go wrong and set-up, and the ROI on is minimal. That's before touching the privacy / hacking angle.
Like I just don't care, flipping a light switch or using a key to open a door isn't a problem. Are we so soft now that using a key is somehow too hard, or even the act of having to carry something with us? That to me is scary.
An added thing for me is that it's not uncommon for our village to have the power go out if the weather is bad or something. it's not super common, but common enough that I have a backup propane canister with a hob for cooking (since the stove is electric), and it's a lifesaver.
My parents have an eclectic garage door and have been stuck a few times, not being able to get the car out so I tend to look at things from a perspective of 'will this thing work if the power is out' angle / is there a backup system, thinking like this hasn't failed me yet.
I think I will be slaughtered if I am to insinuate that my wife is soft for wanting digital locks haha
You are keeping it real. I am counting my blessings that electrical blackouts almost never happen in my country

after reading a book about hyperinflation in south Africa #922507 i almost want to become a prepper lol
at some point, i want to get like a shed-type building to store garden tools in, and i would consider a digital lock for that since it wouldn't be an issue
