The Minnesota Twins pulled their two best players from the game today after only 3 innings because they were trailing 9-0.
That is ridiculous. They are playing the White Sox. Is a comeback likely, no, but you are playing the worst team in the league, at least make an effort.
There is no way the coaching staff made this call. Had to come down from the Front Office.
Is analytics in baseball and sports in general out of control? Who wants to attend a game and the best players are removed after 1/3 of the game because hypothetically there is a 2% chance they will get hurt and only a 0.5% chance the team will win?
What say you stackers?
Sats for all,

I think the main goal was to avoid injuries.
reply
Right but that is a terrible product for the fans who pay a lot of money to watch the games.

That’s some weak ass buster shit.

😆 spoken like a true Oakland fan

Couldn’t have said it better myself. At least in the NBA they don’t start them in the first place. Haha

I don't like it, but Buxton is a China Doll.
I would think Baldelli would have enough pull to make his own calls on the field but we will never know. Best to be considered a "company guy" when your next job is managing another MLB team.

I just automatically assume every controversial call comes from the analytics guys.

I have heard two GMs say it is against the rules to manage from the suite, but I have personally never seen that rule or bothered to look it up.
I remember Bob McCown talking the Jays doing this back in the early 2010s. Like him or hate him: he was pretty connected to the Jays for about 35 years. I was left to think where there is smoke there is fire.
Congrats on edging me out in Week 1 of the pool BTW

I got lucky. Your pitchers didn’t qualify

I also had Flaherty sitting on the bench for his start (face palm).

Why do you have to open old wounds?

Tough for the fans.

I still remember AUS Open 2022 Final. Nadal was playing against Medveded. Win predictor, at the start of the third set, was giving Nadal a 4% chance of winning the match. He ended up winning the tournament. Analytics are not always right, though may help.

I hate that crap. I love analytics in a big picture sense, but this is such a bad use for them.

Analytics are great but players should decide games and coaches should decide what is the best position to put players in is.

Ultimately, it's up to the fans to signal that they're not cool with it right? Unless the fans stop watching or punish teams in some ways for doing this, it'll continue to happen.
A lot of fans would even agree with front office: why risk injuries to key players for meaningless games?
