Maybe I'm changing my answer from piano in that case. I'd love to be able to sing, but yea, I'm positive I'd need a teacher. 

Yeah your vocal cords are an instrument imo. Singing is the most portable, but I've always felt like mastering it requires a teacher because it's hard to hear your own voice.
