It would have to be the piano for me. I've always enjoyed the idea of being able to play piano, but never tried to learn.

Ukulele. Portable. Social. Simple.
I intended to try once, and a friend gave me his. I never learned but my wife has taken it up.

It's very easy to learn. Give it a shot.

I geel like if you learn that, you need to get good at sining "somewhere over the rainbow"
Is singing considered an instrument? I'd like to be able to do that too...

Yeah your vocal cords are an instrument imo. Singing is the most portable, but I've always felt like mastering it requires a teacher because it's hard to hear your own voice.

Maybe I'm changing my answer from piano in that case. I'd love to be able to sing, but yea, I'm positive I'd need a teacher.

Piano!
If you can play piano, you can play anything.

I'm not sure if the piano would translate into playing the trombone, but I can't play either, so what do I know?

Right, it would take some getting used to using the breath and the mouth. My point is that all the notes are layed out on the piano, it's rhythmic and you use both hands and feet. If you can play piano learning another instrument will come a lot faster like it does when you speak multiple languages (so I hear anyway).

I don't think so, playing an instrument well might require even more mechanical skills that don't translate between them than "music skill."
Interesting argument though.

Learning to play is not so hard. Just takes time and motivation. Learning to play really well is extremely hard and takes a lot of practice. I learned piano and guitar on my own, but I can never play like Kirk Hammett or Slash. Johnny Depp level maybe )).
