I paid a lot for my mattress, and have zero regrets.

Paid a ton for my Japanese style automatic toilet with bidet. Heated seat warm washing water. It’s heaven on earth for the bum

I think education.
If someone can really make math interesting and can explain everything clearly and generate interest in the student its worth paying a lot more for.
Other things:
- a good multi tool thingy (Swiss Army Knife)
- good dark chocolate

I have a Leatherman multitool. It's definitely worth it.

I definitely agree on the dark chocolate! And food in general. Investing in good, healthy food literally buys you time.

I always tell people that if they want to give me a useful, give me a useful tool. A Switzerland Plankon is one of the I would like to win someday.
I am a fan of math, but I need to fight laziness to learn things but challenging within the subject.

That was just an example. Whatever field you want to learn about its probably worth paying for a great teacher.

We homeschool our kids. We pay a lot for educational resources, different online programs, extracurricular activities for them. It is definitely worth it.

Yea, if I had kids, I'd dump a lot of money into their futures. What's the hardest part about home schooling?
reply

Sounds like a big time commitment to come up with lesson plans...
Despite public school indoctrination, I would also worry about the knowledge bubble I'd be keeping my kid in.
reply
42 sats \ 0 replies \ @grayruby 26 Mar
Not really. The online platforms we use create the curriculum. We just need to make sure the kids follow the lesson plans, complete and understand the work. A lot of their learning can be self-directed. If they are into a certain subject we will let them run with it and get ahead as long as they are doing well and understanding the concepts.

I respect your decision. Challenges in education, whether home or traditional school, change each year due to increased technology or lack of it.

It's worth it because we are doing our part so that they have the ability to make good decisions in life. I often say that education is never a spending, but a great investment.

Mattress is a good one. Not only do you spend a ton of time there, quality sleep is so important for general wellbeing.
I put quality food in this. That's another major part of life that impacts general wellbeing, beyond the immediate sensory enjoyment.
With both of these, I think it's a pay now and feel good vs pay more later and feel like crap situation.

47 sats \ 0 replies \ @Aardvark OP 26 Mar
Definitely. Sleep and nutrition are so important for health and longevity. I hate my grocery bill, but I'm going to continue eating mostly single ingredient foods.
